Default WHAT is THIS?????

This fella measures about an inch-and-a-half to two inches long!

They are a delicacy in some countries, but in Canada they are actually endangered and protected under the 1976 Act of Nature Treaty,
or ANT for short


Sorry, no real clue, just felt creative for a moment..
Although I saw something similar and was told it was a rove beetle.

It looks like an Oil Beetle "Meloe niger".. Only know this as I found several similar looking beetles this spring..
