I tried the other day and tried Gitrdone or Lee's theory of shooting 1 shot per target X 3 targets and repeat till all 12 shots done. Worked fine till shot #10 went into wrong target. I could of kept shooting but that would be cheating, and besides that, my wife was watching.
You'll notice that she hasn't posted targets yet either. She's getting real close though. "You better watch it Gitrdone."

i did a warmup for the offhand challenge yesterday. since i had been at work for 6 weeks i thought i would be rusty so i took out an 8 inch square target that i had made previously. to see what would happen i did no dry fire or practice shots. first shot was wild. second missed, then 9 of ten on the square although it only looks like 8 on the square. after that i shot another rifle from the bench for a while. just before i left i decided to go back and put 3 more shots on the square just so i could have 12.circled are the 3 i had lost my mojo by that time. i used 30 06 150 gr. 38 gr. rl 7. i hope to post a more by the rules target soon

good effort, i haven't had a chance to go at it yet, busy working on the fclass guns with what little time and weather we've had.
interesting load for an '06, a reduced load for plinking i take it, lee

Good shooting fletcher, looks like you'll be posting your CHALLENGE targets soon. My bet is you got some snow and cool weather in Yellowknife.
duceman- I suppose all the snow is off the ground in your country and you are just fighting wind these days. I thought about an F-class CHALLENGE to accomodate shooters that prefer prone, but I thought they might show up in the 300M CHALLENGE as there are no restrictions on rifles or rests...and in fact I had a PM suggesting a EDIT: "multi" position CHALLENGE that included prone and seated on the ground, so it may be comming up soon. I recommended the person wanting to start the thread, wait until the snow went North of Red Deer as it would likely attract more challengers.

Decent attempt...it is harder than one might think to shoot off hand and hit the circle every time.
I tried the other day cycling between 2 rifles, a .270win and a .300Wby.....turns out that it is not a good idea to do that.
I ended up only getting all 4 shots on 1 of each of the 3 targets per rifle...
Best to stick with one its a tough enough challenge....

hey thanx cat.you rock.
i fired all 12 right away and fairly fast, didnt check in between or anything, so yeah ,clearly need some practise. anyhow i tried, that rifle has a real small length of pull so its knida hard to be relaxed, not an excuse though. and i figure was aiming 9"low ,put white paper below those circles to see clearly with my rifles brass colored front post
i should re work my handloads for that rifle though to ,cant even remember its accuracy when fired slow and on a rest
those are 8" circles. fired left to right, and it felt like i did better at the beggining ,which clearly isnt the case.lol

I'm thinking I might do better at this CHALLENGE if the targets were moving..at least there'd be a chance a circle might end up at the same place as a bullet

fletcher: if I may make a couple of suggestions that could help you a bit, at least for "this" challenge.
1. Paint your targets a bright colour. Black on black crosshairs or even open sight might not work so well. Try a fluorescent orange or even yellow.
2. Load up some "squib" loads. Mild recoil will offset a possible flinch. Sometimes, although most don't admit to it (myself included), a full power load will result in a flinch especially when you have to put 15 rounds on traget consecutively. Look up on Hodgon's website for reduced loads using Trailboss.

i cant see light colours without a scope. a white sheet of paper works good for me but its a lot bigger than an 8 inch circle. i dont really want to download too far and my 300 has a muzzle break and is nice to shoot.

matt - and it looks like this weekend will be no exception. About Tuesday, one of the SPFGA crowd got 11/12 of his shots in the three circles.

I might add that was his second time in a row with 11 of the 12.

Jeeze fletcher, don't you have any rifles that burn less than 50grs of powder...off-hand is tough when one is anticipating recoil..at least for me. Hope Yellowknife weather is better than we are getting east of Edm. Yesterday was wild wind and some snow...today was just wind and snow. Good on you for posting.

i used that rifle because it is heavy i should have used some lighter loads but i didnt have any. if i know i have a live round its a problem even with 223. i can trip the striker dry firing into that target with confidence with a bit of warmup but a live round is problematic.

X2....I attempted this, please note ATTEMPTED the challenge with my .300Wby and 80+ grains of powder....was actually able to put 9 out of 12 in the circles but my narms were getting tired after holding that beast up....pace yourself is my advice on the challenge

Going to try it on Wednesday , standing is not as easy as it looks. Silhouette shooters make it look easy.My hopes are not too high but that's what makes it fun.

Well a couple of days ago we had some nice weather, so i went out and tried my hand at this challenge. The targets are six inch circles, one shot was a little off so I had to draw an eight inch circle to be sure it made it. It is the shot at about 2 o'clock onthe third target. I shot this with a 7mm-08 with a 3-9 X 40 139 gr hornady SST's over 43.5 gr of RL-15. when this nasty wind dies down I may have to try and see if I can get them all inside the 6" circle.[IMG] [/IMG]

Good shooting monster...I think that's the first "gold medal" result. That looks like a Savage with a brake?
Sounds like Marxman may be next up...
Jeeze this weather is pathetic.
