Get the one that would best match the truck testicles hanging from the back of your diesel.

IMO get a Russian one. Nothing wrong with the norincos but for the extra $30 you might as well get an authentic original Russian model. Their quality is excellent.

Get one soon. Most of these come from the Ukraine and the political situation ain't looking good for getting any more.

I have Chinese and Russian. Only real differences are the wood and bayonet. Both shoot acceptably well. Fun and cheap.

On Thursday, Milarm in Edmonton had about 10 SKS with an ammo package of 660 rounds for 295$ and P&D had 5 without ammo for 225$ Sorry but I didn't look closely at the type of SKS,,, I think the ones at Milarm were Yugo's???

Try and find an SkS model D Norinco. Little more expensive, but it is one for the collection.

OK, if you must...
I'd go for post-1952 Russian.
I owed chinese ones including SKS D. They are all pieces of junk with tons of lousily fitted stamped parts in trigger assembly, pinned barrels etc.

^ Not true. Lots of good info here, http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum...AQ-feb-19-2013 Also in that same forum section there is much info about the Russian gear. Many gun dealers on CGN sell various SKS models as do most gun dealers in Calgary.

Feel free to disagree, but the link you gave only proves my point if you care to look. Early Chinese were made under soviet supervision, they are so-so, acceptable, then quality went down like after 70s - stamped receivers (I think that's wheb they show up, pinned barrels), etc. D's (AK mags) are the the worst on stamped parts, second only to 'frankensteined' commercial SKS.

Yugos are fine rifles also, but no chrome.

The article and links shows the Chinese built guns were of varying quality, the Tula factory was shipped to China lock stock and barrel when the soviets went to the AK , the soviets set up the factory in China and got the program running for them. I have Chinese military n.o.s. and Soviet refurbs. they are all rough compared to Euro or N.A. manufactured guns, but they work. They are by no means bench resters but for 200 bucks they are just plain fun. Marstar has the $75 sks deal on now when you buy a case of ammo from them. These things are cheaper than Savage Axis and way more fun. some claim the Yugo with the non chromed barrel is a bit more accurate than the others but who cares? No-one buys an SKS to win a target match. Get what's cheapest and have fun.

I really don't think it matters. Get whatever has a deal on ammo. The ammo is worth more than the rifle.

Lol. I was just thinking yesterday I need to buy an sks just because it's a rifle that really upsets the antis and is everything the RCMP hates.

So, I'd only buy a Russian one. I had one before and it was great. But I now want a post registry version. The Chinese ones are not as nice in any respect from when I compared them in the past.
So where in Calgary area has any Russian ones in stock that don't record your info in a ledger?

I went with the Russian hoping they were built to higher tolerances. Cabelas Canada now has them on their site as Russian laminate stock 219
