Default Did they rename the Alberta Outdoorsmen magazine?

The banner on the top has caught my eye a few times lately, and just now it dawned on me why.

I guess girls are allowed outside now?

Yes they did.

Rob's editorial covered the topic, think it was two magazine back.

Last few years not to many good hunting/fishing or trapping stories. Now need to include the girls in our outdoor man cave. We probably should have written up more of our stories for Rob.

Haha. Now I see it. Saw that something looked different on the top of the page, but couldn’t figure out what (not that I really tried).

I know a lot of woman that are far more so called outdoorsy than us from the so called kitchen to full on survival from combat to camping.

Time for a change which is a good thing.

No one ever took that anthem seriously to begin with.
Two separate national anthems?
What a joke.

You are correct there are likely a lot of women more outdoorsy than you.

Are people really upset about the name change? I don’t get it.

I am generally against all this politically correct adjustment especially the National Anthem and iconic sports teams, however I do like this name change.

It is more inclusive which certainly wouldn't hurt anything, but overall it is just a better name imo. It looks better on paper and certainly would look better on hats and apparel.

I also think it might attract more sponsors from the camping and clothing industries and maybe even tourism. Not that they are all anti hunting/trapping but advertisers have to be so careful now not to offend. Outdoorsmen to me speaks more to the frontier type hunter and wilderness rough neck type not your average weekend warrior that like to spend money too.

I suspect that there are outdoorswomen on this forum right now but they let people think they are men. Why?

I think they'd sell more copies if they called it Outdoors Women.

My observations are they are moving to more of an outdoors pursuits type of magazine rather than strictly a hunting/fishing magazine. The change in name makes sense as such as "outdoorsman" on the surface implies only male hunters, fisherman and bushcraft exclusively, versus all "outdoor pursuits" including biking, hiking, camping, cooking and so on, which tons of women are interested in as well...

I think "being woke" isn't the driver here and the members being cheesed off at the name change are reaching a bit. Magazines in general are struggling to stay alive and pure hunting type mags probably more than others. Trying to attract crossover readership by introducing other outdoors activities they are interested in that move further outside of hunting and fishing only is a respectable effort.

It's not a name change, it's an addition that I regard as timely.

So what's wrong with the " Alberta Outdoors " name change, it's amazing how some people look for something everyday to be offended about.
