Why doesn’t Bombardier make us a fleet “at cost” just to keep everyone working?

the very latest technology available.

Don't they mean, 16 year old technology ?

Nope . . .

They started "Looking" for a replacement over 16 years ago, but the technology in those new Kingfishers is the Latest.

Add to that, those old Buffalos 👇 are 50+ Years Old now ... making the new Kingfishers a 'Quantum Leap', in both aircraft & technology ❗

I'd be interested in hearing from the pilots and crew. My understanding was they essentially wanted a buff, but new, with new electronics, engines etc. No idea how much of that was the old "It was good enough for my grandaddy..." crowd, and how much was "hey, great plane. Needs a modern touch".

Can you say Alternare Service Delivery (ASD). In other words contracted service and support external of military pers except aircrew and SAR techs similar to what the Cormorant is.

Bigger wings would enable it to fly slower, good in a search situation.

That can be achieved with the propellers.

Smaller wings, less lift, more speed required.

Not to worry ... when those large flaps on the wings are partially deployed (increasing lift), those Kingfishers can fly 'Very' Slow ❗

He's a little hard to understand (Spanish accent), but this is a good Tour of the New Kingfisher 👉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LcYDpmDpEo

Winglets, a recent innovation one has to wonder what took so long to figure that out ? I remember my first flight on a winglet equipped West jet Flight, Had to do some research when I got back. I'm told, they smooth out air flow at the tips of the wings and reduce drag.

Well given that the US still uses the B52 which is 68 years young and the A10 which is 48 year old “technology” 16 doesn’t sound that bad. As long as the airframe is in good shape they can make upgrades to the engines and electronics. I don’t know a whole lot about military/sar issues in Canada other than a common theme seems to be older/outdated equipment. I would think getting a new plane even if it isn’t the newest is still a step in the right direction. It’s a good looking aircraft and I love the livery.
