Default Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure with Kevlar

I just bought a truck with the above tires. I’m trying to decide if these will be adequate for winter driving. Dose anyone have an opinion on these for winter?
Thanks

They can from the factory on my Tacoma. I was actually surprised that they did fairly well in snow, and in a bit of mud

Not a bad all round tire, decent on ice and snow, fairly quiet on paved roads, don't throw a lot of rocks. Not a real aggressive lug so stay out of deep mud.

They are not winter specialists by any means, but they will work as well as any all terrain will work. The rubber compounding that is used to make them usable year rund means they are not going to stay as soft when it gets really cold which will affect ice traction. Survivable though... just not optimum.

That is what I run on my work/company truck they seem decent in all aspects good all season tire. I have Goodyear Duratracs on my personal truck and these tires are very comparable. Less aggressive and less road noise but decent in the winter ice/snow and decent in mud. Like someone else said they do not throw many rocks. The Kevlar is a great option in the industry that I am in gives great sidewall protection.

They impressed me the first winter on the Taco, second winter not so much. As stated, a decent all rounder, the Hak 9's I have would eat them for breakfast, but they should.

Some of our motor pool vehicles has these on them. They don’t get a lot of use but the week I used a traverse with them I had no complaints. Quiet on the highway but no experience in snow or mud. The little bit of gravel i ran it faired no better or worse than any other all terrain I’ve run recently.

Aren’t these the tires that replaced the SilentArmor? If so, I had no problem with them and they held up very well. Good crossover(?) tires that are good on highway and driving in fields, etc. Unless you plan on doing more serious off-road driving in deeper snow/mud I wouldn’t bother changing them.

Same for me. I was very impressed with them the first winter. I thought they were going to be junk based on what I read about them online. I had studded Nokian Hakks for my second winter with the truck, so can't comment on them past the first winter!

Same here, I liked them the first year, then not so much. Tread did not last at all. Just replaced mine after 3 years with Pirelli's from Costco. Good price and $80.00 refund. Figured can't be worse then the last set. Never bought tires from costco. we shall see.

Anybody have anymore recent experience with these tires?

I’m currently running the K02’s on my F150. Noticed today I have a couple flat spots on my rear passenger tire. They look pretty bad. The three other tires seem fine and I could probably get a winter out out of them. I usually run either the Duratracs or the K02’s. I just started back working after 6 months off and it’s only for a couple weeks. Probably won’t go back till January, so I don’t want to drop a ton of dough. I can get the Wranglers for $1033 with a $120 mail in rebate.

I’m mainly driving highway then a few miles of gravel to a lease. Driving through pasture and fields in the snow and the mud. And onto location if it’s been pouring rain. Are these tires decent enough for that, should I rethink the purchase or drop the money on decent tires and hope that this January work comes around. It should, but I’d hate to have my truck sitting in the driveway all winter with new tires on it and not driving it.

If you are anywhere near Calgary go see Bob. He has great deals. You could even look at a used set as from the pictures your existing tires are long past usable and are nearly bald. If you aren't near Calgary and don't want to look at used, check out Canadian Tire. Duratracs on sale were $860 mounted for my 3/4 ton. They put them on sale every 3 or 4 months for at least 25% off, sometimes as much as 35% off.

Not the greatest picture of your tire but from that pic to me it appears your tires are at or very near the end of their useable life. Trying to get a few more months out of them with winter ahead would not be a wise choice. Tires are one of the most important safety items on a vehicle. If cash is tight you could look at getting some take-offs at a reduced cost. There are deals to be had on new tires also. It’s not worth gambling your and others lives on it.

I have about 40,000km on the Wrangler AT Adventures , and I am less impressed now, than I was when they were new. They are wearing very fast, and I will likely be replacing them before they reach 60,000km. When the last winter started, they were not as good on ice and snow as the first winter, so I ended up buying winter tires and rims. I most definitely will not be replacing them with the same tire.

That’s my worry. I put on about 8-10k kilometres per month. So I want some tires that I can get some miles out of. Also don’t want to get stuck in a 2ft of snow or can’t get around a muddy location cause the tires are wore down. Maybe I’ll have to look at an alternate tire.

I’m 100% going to put on different tires. I’m just wondering if I should spend the $900 on the Wranglers or spend another $500 and get something a little better. The other 3 tires appear fine and besides this one spot on the inside of the tire, this tire is ok. If I hadn’t seen this, I was easily going to get the winter out of this set, if not the winter and summer.

Ended up going with some Sailun Terramax A/T tires. $1100 all in. Cheaper offshore tires but they fit the budget. Give them a shot and see how they make out.

Interested to hear how these perform (highway, gravel, snow - though hopefully not for a while, etc) as I was looking at the Sailun A/T's as well.

I have a fairly good relationship with the local Fountain Tire. The guy I deal with said that he hasn’t had any complaints so far. Thought they’d be a decent tire for what I do. He said the Wrangler Adventurers I had originally asked about wouldn’t work. I do about 80% highway and 20% gravel. With some snowy fields and muddy leases thrown in. For $1100 all in, I’d give them a shot.

That sounds about the same type of driving as I do, with some summer trailer hauling mixed in, so that's encouraging to hear.

They came factory on my F350 I picked up last spring. They worked not bad over winter with 11,000 on them. Took them off and put better tires on for mud for the summer and have them in storage at the dealership to put back on again in the winter. Original plan was to buy both summer and winter tires this year but they did so well last winter i couldn't justify selling them and getting winters. In fact this week I got a call from a guy at the dealer wanting to buy them for his truck for winter if I wasn't going to get them changed over.

That $1033 price was for the Wrangler Adventure tires. That was for 275/65R18. I went with Sailun Terramax for $1132. The Duratracs were $1486

If you wait for the 4 times yearly tire sale at Canadian Tire, there should be one coming up in the next month, you can pick these up from 950 -1,100 depending on which sale it is. If you put a sales alert on the tire size you want they will email you just before they come on sale. If you are around Calgary, go see Bob, his prices are as good or better than CT.

I bought 4 235/85/16 this time last year, mounted and balanced for under $800, regular price $1,200.

I’m not in the Calgary area but based on what I’ve seen on here Bob is the guy id be supporting if I was closer. I needed tires now based on the wear. Work is firing back up and I can’t afford to get stranded. I’ve bought tires on the 3 for 4 sale and just kept them in the garage till needed. Also, Fountain Tire has price matched the Can Tire sale. Get the sale price and better customer service.

The Duratracs are on sale right now at Canadian Tire for $1499 for the LT275 65R18's

Hard to beat Bob's pricing, unfortunately he didn't have any in stock.
