Hi Gang,
I'm usually hunting ducks or sucking up to my wife in late October (in between duck hunting and deer season coming up
) but I'm going scouting this weekend and my buddy pointed out that shotgun is open for deer and his cow moose where we're hunting.
I bought a new 870 Remington last year (up to 3 1/2 inch shells) and my buddy says the newer guns should be fine for shooting slugs. Are there any concerns with shooting slugs out of a new 870 with a regular choke/barrel in place? I just want to make sure I don't blow my arm off or something! (go ahead and laugh...) It's a recent model, new from Bass Pro within the last year.
So that's my first question. My second (and third) questions are:
2) Effective kill range for most slugs? (I'll fire a few before the weekend and won't shoot beyond my comfort zone. I'm assuming 75-100 yards will kill cleanly?)
3) Any recommendations on slugs (that I can buy at Bass Pro)? I don't have much time to grab ammo tomorrow before I go practice - and the rest of the week is a write off.
Thanks.
