Default Where to fish perch around Edmonton?

Hey everyone, I just signed up to this forum today, I want to take the girlfriend fishing while we still have this beautiful weather. I haven't fished any lakes near Edmonton, or any ice fishing in the last 5 years for that matter, (moved from Athabasca) wondering if anyone can tell me a close lake thats producing some action in the perch Department. Anything within 90 minutes would be ideal.

Any help would be great!

If all you care about is action, Lessard Lake will work. It is close and there is a ton of perch in that lake. Most are between 4-6 inches, but about 1 out of every 100 are bigger.

Cheers.

Thanks for the replies... Whats the word on Sandy Lake near morinville? I hear it used to be really hot for perch fishing... winter kill? Has anyone been out lately?

Also, we don't have an auger, was just gonna lumber jack it and smash some half frozen holes out with an axe.... and won't be driving on the ice either (small car, no winter tires) so ideally somewhere we can just walk on....

Thanks for the help so far!

Thanks for the heads up, was seriously considering it. That would have sucked! I need a place where there will be tons of people fishing so that I can either snake some person's hole or smash a few out with an axe... :P

Another vote for Hasse. Easy walk on access, you can fish pretty much anywhere in that lake and find tons of little perchlets just a few feet under the ice Busy enough that you're likely to find some fresher holes that won't require much chopping too

Thanks everyoe for the replies, but I think I'm gonna try out this lessard lake. Any major objections? Lol, if we get skunked, maybe hasse on the way home or next weekend. Going to fishin hole tonight, any suggestions for tackle? Always like the mini five of diamonds with maggots... Personal fav. Also, does anyone have any recent information on island lake near athabasca? Some huge pearch in that lake! Are they bitting?
