elk close encounter - within 1 YARD!
Every fall, Brad, Tim and I do our bow hunting trip for elk. Over the years, we have experienced a few breathtaking encounters with elk, some under 10 yards. This is made possible by our masking of our human scent using de-scent sprays, elk urine and spruce boughs, along with wearing camouflage clothing and face paint. On my bow, I have mounted a video camera that captured 2013's incredible action, the most amazing close encounter of my 30 year hunting career. On an evening hunt, we had gotten into the middle of an elk herd with 3 or 4 bulls and a few cows. The bugling action had heated up and I was sneaking through the bush trying to close the gap on the herd bull. I was standing next to a poplar tree when a spike bull elk appeared on a game trail at about 10 yards. He looked around and then calmly sauntered straight towards me, zoning in on Tim and Brad's elk calls coming from behind me. He casually strolled by, within one yard of where I was standing. What a heart pounding adrenaline rush to have a wild animal walk that close to you and not even know you are there!! Then to top this off, 2 minutes later a cow elk comes galloping towards me, heading to the elk calls. She nearly runs me over and almost impales herself on my arrow. An unbelievable evening of elk action that I was lucky to have captured forever to relive this unique moment.
You can see how adrenaline makes an arrow vibrate.

Wow!! That was incredible. Thanks for sharing it with us.
You're right that cow nearly impaled herself on your arrow.
You: "Honestly officer she ran right into my arrow."
F&W officer: "Uh, huh. Suuuure she did."

Okay okay...great video action, a lot of people can't say they have been that close to a wild animal and have the animal not notice...well done, looks like you are in the right place right there...Awesome, thank you for posting up so the rest of us can enjoy...in the first one it kinda felt like I was the one holding the bow..better than any Play station, lol
