Gun Cleaning Kits
Hi all,
I have all caliber sizes from .22 up to 375, and .410 to 12 ga. Does any company make a comprehensive cleaning kit that will cover all calibers in one box?
Getting sick of having 10 different kits for all my firearms.
Tx in advance

I do not use kits,as the kits with the multi piece cleaning rods are not what you should be using if you value your rifle barrel.Get as few one piece Dewey cleaning rods as possible(usually two or three will cover the bore sizes that you list)and a proper jag, bronze brushes, and patches for each bore size.
For the shotguns, one rod will do with mops to suit each gauge(or caliber).

If you want to have clean barrel in your rife with out ruining rifling in your rifle you must have corresponding one piece cleaning rod for each caliber and bore guide for each.
You can't have a cake and eat it to.
Just my 2¢ worth.

I use a universal bore guide with changeable ends for each caliber/case, two different sizes of one piece rods, and keep my jags for ech caliber in a palstic 20 round cartridge box.
I don't use kits....

If you really want a kit look on the Otis website. They make a big multi caliber and gauge cleaning kit and have the cables. Just an idea.

I wouldn't pull ANYTHING through a rifle, only a shotgun.
besides that, I have seen rifles plugged solid with mud after a tumble, and the guy had a pull through.
Didn't help much, that is why i carry a 4 piece rod in my hunting pack, and only for emergency use - otherwise it's one piece rods and bore guides.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess I'll invest in a universal bore guide. I have never used one in the past.
What cleaning rod would put that kind of damage to the end of the barrel, aren't most cleaning rods aluminium or brass types? I would think they are alot softer than cold steel.
Just a question, just curious.

Aluminum rods will damage most firearms if they are allowed to rub extensively in the barrel. You may believe that aluminum is soft and will not damage the firearm. Aluminum creates an oxide on its outer surface. This oxide is similar if not identical to the aluminum oxide used in grinding wheels and knife sharpening equipment. This oxide will lap the bore and make it oversized and uneven. Any oversized condition allows gas to escape ahead of the bullet, thus random velocities occur.

Another problem is all the stuff that gets inbedded inot the rods if they are not wiped off after each pass.
The bore guide helps protect the chamber and rifling leade, but if too tight a patch is used , the rod can actually bend while inside the bore and rub on the rifleng.

Not to mention that the multi piece rods flex much more than one piece steel rods, and that the edges of the sections don't always line up,resulting in those sharp edges passing back and forth over the rifling.

Thanks for the insight I didn't really put much thought to the whole process. I will purchase a multiple of bore guides pronto.
Thanks again everyone for the lesson it makes alot of sense.
And to set your mind at ease I have never or will never own a bore snake. lol

The stoney point system lets you change heads, and the bolt stop can be adjusted independtly, so it's a preety good rig for someone with several different brands of rifles.
