Green is a good color for Lakers because they are cannibals and green holds up at depths
Frog patterns work very well because of this

Funny you mentioned that, I used that green tube I call the pickle in 170 fow working the bottom 10 fow as I marked fish down there. I dialled in my electronics to see the fish bottom separation (X10 Zoom on the bird).
The other half of the bird was watching the entire water depth but that pickle was the answer down deep.
My son uses it in 120-140 fow and suspends it right in amongst the bait balls (cisco) which I thought wouldn’t work but was I wrong.

I have posted it before and find it makes a huge difference research the effects of water depth on colour
All the lure colours in those pictures are in my go to list for lakers and I have caught lakers on all those styles of lures too. I have other colors I like as well and contrast, flash and glow are other factors
Airplane style jigs, blade baits and underspins are other jigs worth while. Big saltwater powerbait twister tails on a 2 oz under spin have always been a go to for ice fishing Lakers for me.
But really Lakers eat all kinds of stuff. I watched an old guy use a heavy spoon with a chunk of white plastic bag on the hook do well jigging

Those are great pics. Just goes to show it pays off to mix up the hook selection.

White is such a great color in almost any condition, it almost always shows up quite well without being overly gaudy or unnatural.
Everyone tends to figure the old Red Devil works because its red, in my old age I've come to feel that white stripe down the middle is probably more important.

Whit is one of my go to’s for all predatory fish. Visibility is good and most bait fish have white bellies too
All my lure blanks are white (color of the resin mix I use) before I paint them. I have caught tons of fish testing un painted prototypes. Even won derby’s running un painted prototypes
Pure black can also be very effective and more viable than many think

Yeah, not a laker lure, but a black spinnerbait with brass or copper blades has been one of my top go-to's for something like 25 years. I think that especially for buzzing or bulging it on the surface it stands out well, but it works good any other way you want to fish it too.

This is a colour pattern that simply just works.
Len Thompson no.2 spoon from way down deep to just under the ice.
The paint glows so periodically I will recharge it by laying it out in the sun.
I will rip through the water columns with it to entice the chase/bite and bang the bottom usually gets hit.
If not but I am marking lakers I will immediately drop a white tube down with a shinner or two on and that is usually the answer.
I call it stirring the pot.
This trout was caught immediately after bringing up the spoon.

Lakers are not fussy. Just like Pike. Just get something down to where they are, and if they are feeding, you are in bussiness.
People think Laker fishing is hard, but the reality is they are likely not putting the lure down to the fish ..... nothing to do with the lure.
That's how I see it.

Yet they can turn off and then you just grind it out and or change up the presentations to see if you can entice the bite.
Sometimes a small change can make a huge difference as in the amount of bites and fish landed.
This could be up to and including moving to a different depth/structure/presentation etc.

Even with the so called changes coming into effect with the legal size you can keep it's still too big for me.
All get released to hopefully grow to the full potential that a lake can reach.
12-15” would be table fare for me.
