Default Fish Finder plug in end greasy??

Hi,

Need some help from an electrical expert.

I found out that the plug-in at the back of my fish finder is greasy??

i was going to hit it with some electrical contact cleaner, but on second thought, my unit is 1 month old and the plug is pretty much water seal.

is the grease in there for a reason?? i'm having weird signals from the fish finder and that is the reason why i looked at the first place.

searched the internet and there is electrical contact grease??

i'm so confused now.....should i clean or not to clean??

I would think that it is electrical grease, and it is there to keep out moisture and for preventing corrosion.

Default Dialectric grease

It actually has graphite in it to assist in electrical transmission. It is there to stop corrorsion. I have started using this stuff on all spade adn bullet connectors on trailer and boat wiring. Works great!

You should be able to buy it at any Napa store. It's actually called Dielectric grease, and it comes in a small tube. Just ask at the parts counter and they will be able to help you out.

You should be able to find it at any auto parts store near their electrical supplies. Use it sparingly though. I personally wouldn't gob it on like someone else has done to your connection. When I use it I just use enough to coat the connections. Obviously someone thought more was better. So they slapped it on thick. They wanted to keep water and corrosion out. So at least they had the right idea.

Don't worry about using contact cleaner on the plug in. You can spray it on the plug in and clean things up. So that when you add on the dielectric grease then you can put it on a clean corrosion free plugin.
