When I was a kid on the island I once watched a pod of killer whales hunt seals, the tide was rising and the seals were trapped, some made it out but those that stuck on shore were systematically picked off by rushing the shore, bringing in huge amounts of water and washing them out in which a trailer whale would grab them. After the 2 hr show the water was crimson red and there was one small seal getting tossed around etc as a younger whale was getting educated on killing its prey.

We had many pods come 20 yards by our 16 foot tinner too, reel in quick and watched these great beasts swim by.....soooo cooool!

Actually, Orcas killing Great Whits with a gut blow was documented off of Catalina Island off California. The Whales were there for the seals and the sharks.

A big pod swam into the Hood River about 10 years ago. Pod size was estimated at 75 whales.

They stayed for a week and the sea lion and seal count at the fish ladders dropped by over 1000.

Go Whales!!!!
