Depends on what died in the vacuum. Is it some faulty wiring or a bad switch in the hose? Can you turn on the unit by bridging the contacts where the 24v 'thermostat' sized wire connects to the canister? Is the breaker tripped?
You could always disconnect the unit and bring it to your local vacuum repair shop.
Sometimes the issue is the hose. That reminds me I should troubleshoot our own as there is an intermittent issue somewhere in the hose handle where the unit will turn off randomly when the loose wire (or whatever) breaks circuit continuity.
