Default Perch fishing for kids (Edmonton)

I know the dreaded topic.

I’m going out with a buddy and his 3 kids and my son, we’ve been out to other lakes with them and caught some pike, but nothing that has really hooked their interest because of the long wait between bites.

We bring lots of things to do and keep them entertained as best as we can. However I would love to have them catch fish at a more consistent rate, or even watch them on camera.

If anyone could point me in a direction that would be greatly appreciated, not looking for the holy grail. Just trying to get some young kids hooked.

Thanks for all of your help.

I’m in Edmonton.

Mons lake by Smokey Lake is infested with small perch. last time I was there I couldn't keep them off, but they were small, the biggest might have been 6".

I spent countless hours as a kid fishing with my Grandfather for species which are not known for non-stop continuous action and there was nothing to entertain me in the boat or on the ice between bites except for my Grandfathers story telling and teaching yet somehow I ended up hooked on fishing? I don’t recall being bored or disappointed if the fishing was slow which it often was. Being awakened at 4:30 am to fish with Gramp was reward in itself, he seemed larger than life to me as a youngster and to this day, though he’s been gone nearly a decade I still think of him as a master angler and hunter.

I used to catch tons at Cardiff Pond and Morinville reservoir.

Second half moon by bon accord (note there’s multiple half moon lakes in AB). Took my 6 and 4 year old kids last year and it was great. Like was mentioned above, nothing worth keeping, but it’s close and the action was fairly nonstop for 4-8” perch.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I haven’t had the time to explore like I used to. After Hasse had gone down hill I’d still get out there to catch 3-5” perch for half a day when I wanted to feel successful regardless of size. Lakes like that make for fun competitions between friends to see who can get to 100 first.

If you know someone with access to lake summerside. That'd be the spot. It's stocked and in the city.

Is there no path down to lake summerside or is it surrounded by houses.

Private lake.
You have to live there to fish it.
