Default JD - My Llewellin Setter - On Point

Just a couple of photos of JD locked up on a covey of Huns yesterday.... He's really come into his own this season.. He'll be 4 years old in February. He has a long nose....I've seen him lock up on birds that are 100 yards upwind or more and he's solid as a rock on point... Lots of fun to watch him work.. In the house or in my truck, he's about the most laid back dog you'll ever see but in the field he's all business....

He's what most people would call a "Natural Birddog"... I've done very little formal training with him... I've pretty much just taken him out and let him learn how to handle wild birds on his own... there were lots of busted birds, a lot of bump and run, etc. when he was young but he's very smart and it didn't take too long for him to learn that chasing what futile and his pointing instincts kicked in... He'll now hold his point pretty much indefinitely.. If the birds move he'll relocate, but if they stay put, he stays put.. Very intense on point.....

Thanks all..... He's really quite a dog... I have to keep his coat trimmed pretty close as he's a burr magnet.. There's isn't much hair left on his tail because I've cut so many burrs out of it.

It's interesting how his coat color has changed from when he was a pup... Here's a couple photos of him when he was 8 weeks old... You wouldn't even think it was the same dog...

Smile Nice dog

We have a nice one in Wild Rose NAVHDA but he is White with Black spots. Very stylish.

Thanks for sharing. These pics made made my day. JD is a great looking dog. It is always amazing how a good pointer/setter will almost teach themselves with the right amount of experience in the field. Great job! Enjoy the time you are blessed to share the field with a great dog.

What a great looking dog! And he is a working dog too as a bonus! LOL!!!
The other day I gave my spaniel a small piece of wild goose meat and he didn't even want to eat it..... Tells you what kind of dog he is!

Great photos of one beautiful dog. I know that you are going to develop a very special bond with this dog. Take good care of him. As I write this, there are two English Setters sleeping on our living room couch!! They have both been out to Saskatchewan, one has even made the long drive to Montana. Birds are still way down in Sask., so we have not driven out since 2011.

Smile More Doggy pictures

There is a Llewellyn setter in these pics too. He is pointing, backing and retrieving. There is another dog you may never have seen before his name is "Quill" and he is sporting a very stylish red vest. When he finds a bird he sits until the hunters get there. Very cool.

The owner trains with us because he says there is no ther club available to him. The pudelpointers are ours. You fellows should be able to guess the rest of the breeds.
