Talking Bull Moose Tag Filled

Filled my moose tag couple days ago. It was a long day packing him out.

Started off in the morning watching this open area and calling with nothing going on. After about 2 hrs I heard a bull grunt 4 times at the far west end so we moved down a bit closer. I continued to call with no further response. Then at about 9:40am he walked out at 270 yrds. I hit him hard the first time and he went 20yrds and stopped. I put a second round into him and that was all. Then the work began. We had to quarter him and pack him out the 3/4+ of a mile out way down past the far end of the picture to the truck. That took us till about 8pm. I packed one hind quarter out on my back and then a front quarter over my shoulder. The other two we pulled out on a sled. The final trip back for the head. We were all bagged and still paying for it today...

He's not huge but I wasn't looking for a trophy, just meat for the freezer. Measured 43.5" across.

I was shooting a 25-06 with 115 gr partitions.

[sarcasm]WHAT!?!? There's no way you killed a MOOSE with a 25-06! And a 115 gr bullet! That is too small of a gun for a moose! Didn't you know that moose can only be killed with a MAGNUM rifle 300 caliber or bigger? How dare you be so unethical and shoot such a large animal with such a low power firearm! HOW DARE YOU!!!!![/sarcasm]

Congrats!

Very nice animal! That much have been one heck of a pack job. (insert sarcasm) What???? A 25-06 was used on such an animal???? That is 338 Lapua/50BMG territory son! Have you not watched Roadrunner vs Coyote cartoons as kid and have learned that even dropping anvils, pianos and bank safes are hardly effective?????(end sarcasm)

There is proof. A rifle that a shooter is confident with coupled with a well placed bullet is all you need to lay a moose over.

I would rather shoot a smaller rifle accurately and know where I will hit instead of a large one and just fling bullets out there. I love the 25-06, it just simply works...

I am 100% behind you. Once I learned that I truly suck at shooting big recoiling rifles, I bought a 6.5x284, load er up with 140's at about 2900fps and viola a rifle that I can shoot very accuately and has very little recoil. My shots on targets and game improved dramatically. I sometimes wonder about peoples stories about being undergunned on certain animals if they actually placed the bullet where it was supposed to go.

What do you plan on doing with your trophy?

Just going to do a European mount with it....pic doesn't show it well but it has pans on both sides

It is not the Tool, it is the tool(no disrespect intended in anyway) using the Tool that makes it effective.

WELL DONE sir, that is a quality animal, enjoy the spoils of you hard work.

It is beautiful country. A guy I work with took a 56" bull out of there last year.
