Started off in the morning watching this open area and calling with nothing going on. After about 2 hrs I heard a bull grunt 4 times at the far west end so we moved down a bit closer. I continued to call with no further response. Then at about 9:40am he walked out at 270 yrds. I hit him hard the first time and he went 20yrds and stopped. I put a second round into him and that was all. Then the work began. We had to quarter him and pack him out the 3/4+ of a mile out way down past the far end of the picture to the truck. That took us till about 8pm. I packed one hind quarter out on my back and then a front quarter over my shoulder. The other two we pulled out on a sled. The final trip back for the head. We were all bagged and still paying for it today...
He's not huge but I wasn't looking for a trophy, just meat for the freezer. Measured 43.5" across.
I was shooting a 25-06 with 115 gr partitions.

Geez Rob, with your arms, you could've packed out the whole moose without quartering it. You must've been tired that day

Congratulations on a successful hunt! Great to see some love for the 25-06! I bought one last year and took all three of my deer with it. It's good to see some proof of its capabilities, rather than just reading about it.
I'm currently trying to figure out what bullet and load to build up for it and Partitions are on my short list. I'd be interested to hear the details of your load if you don't mind sharing.

I don't reload...so I'm just shooting factory federal partitions. They have always shot good for me in whatever caliber I had.

That's a nice Moose buddy! If you don't mind me asking, what priority did you have to draw the tag?

Congrats on a great moose.
