This has been going on all day, chasing all through the water columns and then getting picked off.
Dead stick nothing!
Crazy.

Always nice have a few people stop by to make idle chat and watch you catch, so got a picture.
The only lake caught on the dead stick today.
Meet some great people out on the ice!

Out this morning for a "quick fish". No flood water, few inches on snow and a bright moon! Fishing was constant between 7-9am then instantly died off for me. Caught 9 and packed her up after the bite died off.

Cheers!

There was definitely some flood water on the way to Garnett this morning. Makes a guy pucker in the sxs when the heart drops into your stomach

Dam I thought that would have frozen by now, I am on the skidoo so probably just went over top of it.
I found in a few areas I would drill through 4 inches of ice and then hit about a foot of flood water sitting on 8 - 10 inches of good ice.
Now if you broke through ya might be in a pickle to get out....don’t stop keep on going. There are vehicles
(Trucks, suvs)slowly making their way out to the open water and lots of snowmobiles, side by sides, going all over the lake now.
On another note now I know why you can’t find a used older trailer anywhere around here, provincial park point is a trailer park ice fishing community. The most I have ever seen. Kinda cool to see the different set ups.
Randomly had visitors stop by too from the forum, great to put a face to a “handle”.....wife says I talk too much and if I put the effort into fishing I would have better success.

Forecasted +5 today, woke up to +2, great for us on the skidoo’s but might turn to crap for truck/suv travel.....we need another cold snap or temps -10 highs in the day and -20 overnight.

Fish are still biting so that’s a good thing.

Tomorrow is go time again, was going to head out but that dam wind was bucking like a bugger.
My thought this outing is to hit deeper pockets like 140 fow to pick off the suspended lakers and the bottom ones too.
This area has a steep shelf 50-120 fow relatively quick then is kinda flat then drops again to 140 fow.
If they are not responding then I will play in more shallow depths.

Fished all day today and found the bite to be very slow after about 9 this morning.

Started early in french bay and had pretty good action with chases that commited. Hole hopped between 30 and 110 feet from 9 until 11 and had some interest but definitely slower than early morning. Didn't seem to matter what lure, bait or presentation we used.

Moved to the main lake for a few hours, hitting various structure and depths between 60 and 170 feet. Managed to ice a couple more trout but most weren't interested or would only slowly chase a short distance.

Headed into the shallows for the last couple hours of daylight to chase pike and they didn't disappoint.

Ice was 10-13 inches everywhere we drilled, saw some brave souls in small trucks crossing the mouth of french bay

Well still at it, 150 fow water, all fish caught between 120-150fow.
A bakers dozen since 9:30 am.
Taking a break to pass on what I see.
Out past the Newfie hump, 12 inches of ice and a foot of flood water here and there.
A few ice shelves with water around them so be careful.
White tube jig for the most part then switched to a spoon.
Well got to the 150 fow bottom and bounced it a few times and Bam I am on.
Ice the 25 inch laker just to have it burp up a 10 inch burbot that is still alive!
Lots and lots of chasers which makes the time go by quick.

What a great day so far.

Wink

Also forgot to mention that there are snow drifts starting to build up in areas too.
Seen a few stuck suvs and trucks and the combination of warmer mid day temps if you get high centred you just spin and sink down to the ice.
Momentum and pay attention to where you stop.
Always an adventure.

Yes but sticking to the already trails made, the brave ones take the chances of the overflow areas but below the overflow areas seems to be 12 inches or more of ice.
Now as with all lakes there are going to be exceptions to ice thickness so caution should be priority one.

Made it out this morning to a less travelled area by snowmobile. Ice was surprisingly thick-14" and very packed down snow. I don't see any vehicle traffic yet but a few sleds cruising around. Fishing was great between 7-9:15 then died off but I ran out of bait . Ended up with double digits on the ice but didn't really count, quite a few fat trout.

Good Luck !
