Compared to past tournaments.

Sorry internet on the lake is wonky, or maybe it’s me.

Think I'd rather minus 30 for ice but yeah weather looks ridiculous to our past trips up.

Hi, new to the forum. Driving in for the tournament and have been on the lake a few different years. Never had an issue with flood water, normally it’s -30 lol. I’m planning to fish at English Bay provincial recreation park in about 90 FOW. Is it safe to drive F250 gasser on or is there lots of flood water?

Is any spot safe from water? Are people driving on trucks? Thanks for the help!

Seeing lots of big trucks out and about, there is no guarantees you won’t hit flood water so be prepared, it’s just that type of year on the lake.

Ice conditions at Cold Lake have been very inconsistent this year, so I doubt anyone could tell you its safe. Others are driving trucks on........but you are really rolling the dice this year. Go with sled or sxs.

Thanks for the information. I have been fishing at lac ste Anne lots this year and the ice can be close to 28” so I was a little surprised to see the ice is 12” or less at cold lake. Didn’t start researching until last night. If I walk on, is the marina the best for closeness? My Dad is older, and can’t get around super easy.

I have not been on the lake but lots of reports of flood water, walking could be ugly especially for your Dad if you happen across one of these spots.

I was fishing just north of the provincial park at 67' deep and the ice was about 19" thick last friday.

Easy walk straight out off the marina.
You can drive out too, lots of traffic out there.
Good luck hope your dad catches a gooder!

Now I am off to harass the non local anglers.

Good luck out there!

Looks like the tournament leader is a 35 inch trout, that’s a gooder!
Today I managed 6, largest was 28 inches, four on the dead stick and two on the white tube.
Lost a few too but that’s fishing.
Lots and lots of chasers which was frustrating trying to get them to hook up.

Pretty sure my buddy caught the smallest lake trout I've ever seen from cold lake. I don't even know how the fish got a lure into its mouth! 14 inch beauty

There should be a prize for the wee ones too

Yesterday evening leaving the ice and making my way home I was amazed at how quick the lake turned into a cold lake subdivision

Tuff times out there for some though, the PP launch area turned into a slippery slope with trailers jackknifing etc but the parks people graded it so it should be better for those who used that area to access the lake.

Met a member from the forum out on the ice , great people who too hit tuff times breaking a drive shaft, I managed to talk to a fella from Calgary who was fishing with his son to help them out, the Skandic was not up to the task to pull the 3/4 tonne truck out

Was really nice to see all the younger anglers out too, a few came over to chat with me and share their secrets. Your never too old to learn

Wow is it ever peaceful out here today.
Not that I didn’t mind my neighbours on Friday.
Nice to see the lakers have short memories.

In the middle of French bay they was some flood water.
But in and around the ski hill area seems good to go but we got a cold snap happening which may change everything again hopefully for the better and freeze up any additional flood water.
Thing is it could make more ice heaves which can open up and spill out more water so just be careful.
Today must have been recovery day as I seen a few trucks and snowmobiles getting towed .

We spent the weeked a ways east of garnett....Saturday night the ice was all kinds of loud and Sunday there was a pile more water than Friday and Saturday. Lots of 100 yard patches of 10-12" deep water mixed with the fresh snow.

Yeah wouldn't that be classic that it refreezes this week only to warm up and melt (unlikely though). Mother nature likes to give a kick square in the gonads.

Gear all ready to go for a break in this cold snap

I think this is the longest break I've taken from lake trout this whole season. Missed the derby and now all this cold weather! Hopefully get out on saturday assuming it warms up nicely.

Well was checking things out yesterday and suvs, trucks, trucks hauling campers were out and about.
All areas that has overflow is solid but that doesn’t mean that floodwater hasn’t popped up elsewhere so just be aware.

Out this morning for a few hours. Bite was definitely poor, weather wasn't the best either. Lake conditions are pretty decent, drifted snow in places but didn't encounter any water. Managed a few fish on the ice but I would consider this one of the slowest times I've seen on Cold Lake this year.

Cheers.

Fishing today in 90 fow for the most part but tomorrow I am going back out to 100-140fow seems they are lazy, like it in the deeper water and large herring/bait.

Tried Cold Lake this weekend for the 1st time for our annual fishing trip. Was pretty slow. Talked to quite a few guys who said the same thing, but that's why it's called fishing, not catching.

Tried different structure and depths from 60 - 140 fow.

Would like to thank one of the AO members for his help and knowledge. First time there, and 1rst time fishing for Lakers and he gave us some advice and pointed us in the right direction

Also, thanks to the crackhead who broke into 3 trucks in the PP parking lot (one of the 3 being ours) I guess we needed 2 new side windows anyway. And thanks for taking our room key as well .... we really enjoyed coming back to the room after dealing with RCMP to find all of our clothes and extra gear cleaned out of our room. I hope you enjoy wearing my underwear and using our Aqua Vu
