Cinnamon black bear or grizzly?

I had this bear at 150 yards last night but I couldn't convince myself either way.
Any opinions?

2nd and 3rd pic, shape of head and shoulders, looks like a good size color phase to me. Good looking bear.

At first I thought what a great colour phaze BB.

The third picture I can see what appears to be a hump at the front shoulder, which makes me think Griz.

Need more pictures to be definitive.

99.9% of the time, when you question it, it’s a black bear.

Thanks guys, it looks like the consensus is that it's a black bear.
Unfortunately the season closed last night in that area so the lucky bear gets to stick around for another while.

First impression: Black bear
But then at certain angles he looked more grizz and decided not to take the shot.

But I agree with your decision to hold off unless you are 100% sure

Sounds like you were hunting alone at a safe distance . If you had a partner it would have been safer to walk in closer at 75 yards and have a better look .
I gather you will be looking for that bear again . Have a look around the area for any bear tracks and see if you find any grizz tracks around.
I once walked up to a bear at 150 yards alone also ,then it walked out of the dip in the ground it was in and it got really big and my 30-06 got really small .
I returned a week later with a 338 mag . I miss bear hunting .

That’s a big fat black bear. From what I can see he looks like a shooter but I would need to see the head better before I pulled the trigger.

For those who get scared when they see a little bump around the shoulder. Here are two blacks that also appear to have a hump, it didn’t make them grizzlies though.

It's funny to me. Some say the 3rd and 4th are questionable but those clearly show black bear to me. It's really only the first one that makes me question it; the muzzle/head say grizzly in that one to me. I would be 90% confident it's a black bear but that isn't good enough.

I disagree. The first picture leave’s absolutely no doubt it’s a black bear.

And the variations between animals is why you can’t rely on any one characteristic to decide if it’s a griz or black. Always check for a combination. This one appears to have a bit of a shoulder hump but it appears to me that is the result of a shoulder blade. The ears shape of snout and rump higher than the front shoulders is what gave it away for me. Glad to see someone is hesitant to drop the hammer unless they are 100% positive!!

That is why said it is interesting. The 2nd and 3rd photos clearly lack the hump, have a flat face profile and the shortness of the neck meaning it is a black bear. The first photo is the only one that sort of shows a hump and the face that, to me, looks dish shaped with a wider muzzle that is clearly not present in the any of the other pictures. If I only saw pics 2 - 4 (though 4 is inconclusive to me) I would immediately say 100% black bear but it's the first picture, with the steeper drop from the skull into the nose, the front right shoulder possibly giving a hump, the more muscular neck, and the general broad appearance of the nose that would be enough for me to go from 100% certain it's a black bear to 90%.
