Default Poachers Busted!

Hello everyone,

Long time reader - first time poster. I wanted to share this story.

My buddies and I often fish on the Waskasoo Creek off the Red Deer River. Prior to the floods, we would often find lines in the water, tied to trees, but never anyone around. The first time was just one line, pulled it in. Later that evening, went down again, and found several lines - 1 had a dead Goldeye, and one had a nice Burbot. We released the Burbot, and pulled in the rest of the lines. All the lines had bait like pork chop, chicken and what appeared to be possibly fish guts (maggots are the only allowed bait in this area). We contacted F&W, and kept in contact with them. Since the flooding, we haven't been noticing any lines. Last night, ran into a F&W officer, and found that they caught an entire group of poachers, including a lookout (which apparently doesn't matter with night vision equipment ). A total of 8 charges resulting in some hefty fines. He mentioned that since they've been monitoring, they've also caught an additional 3 poachers!

Notch one for the good guys!

Right on! I caught 3 old men poaching walleye from the NSR last summer. Called R-A-P and they charged em with 6 counts of possession of a restricted species. When it went to court, they were fined $6000. A few weeks later I recieved a $300 cheque and a hand written thank you letter.

Tell that to the foreign workers!!! They don't have a concept of limits, let alone a knowledge of our language when the fish cops check them.

Having multiple unmanned lines in a water body with bait that likely has a bait ban is a no no...

Awesome Job. Glad to see these creeps get fined for these illegal fishing act. I think the punishment should be greater. Maybe people would think twice on doing stupid crap.
