Default Jeep question

I've got a 2006, Grand Cherokee Laredo that I'm replacing the driver's side drive axle. Apparently there are two variations, with and without limited slip differential, one is longer than the other. I haven't got the old one out yet, so I can't measure it, but would like to know if or if not I have a limited slip differential, so I can order the new one. Thanks

Grizz

Limited slip should let both axles turn in the same direction when off the ground. Non will turn the opposite axle in different direction.

Put in neutral, jack front end off ground to check. This is assuming no electronics involved. The only thing that could happen is clutch packs are worn and not working. If that's the case measure the length.

Look at the diff cover and look for a tag stating if limited slip or not

If I remember right if your grand Cherokee doesn’t have 4 low u don’t have limited slip differentials. If you do have 4 low go count the bolts on rear diff cover if 12 then u have limited slip if 10 bolts u have open diffs. And pretty sure only the ones that say quadra drive II on your shifter console have limited slip.

Default Glove Box

Would that option be listed in the vehicle info tag in the glove box?

Thumbs up Here are a couple links that may help

This link will provide the original window sticker in .pdf format:
https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windo...kerPdf.do?vin=

This link will provide the original build sheet in .pdf format:
https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/...etServlet?vin=

You must insert the VIN after the =
If you open the links in a new tab, both will lead to "VIN not provided" blank pages , simply insert the VIN after the = in the address bar and hit refresh.
If you copy and paste the links into the address bar, simply add the VIN before you hit Enter/Refresh.

Usually axle code is on door sticker with vin and weight info. But can’t remember if on dodge it’ll say limited slip or not when you look up code.

Slight variation of post but my first Dodge Ram was suppose to be limited slip as per the long list of options I had when purchased. When changed gear oil in diff mechanic told me it was not 'limited slip". I was totally ****ed with Chrysler, they claimed were short of limited slip ones when manufacturing line and had to put in regular axle. PS also less cost for them!
Lastly I still will only buy Ram diesels and Grande Cherokees, best vehicles every made.
