Default Upper K Rainbow, and the new fish ladder

Hit up the ole lake on fathers day weekend with my dad and brother, caught the usual amount of cutts and my dad snagged a nice rainbow. Also snapped a few shots of the newly constructed fish ladder. Good weekend and a nice surprise to see the rainbow thats forsure.

Nice fish, IMO that's a cuttbow, there has to be some recruitment in the lakes. There hasn't been any rainbow stocking in those lakes for 10(?) yrs.

I got one similar to that the weekend before as well.

Those big spots had me confused as well, checked for a slash and didn't see a hint of one, so assessed it as rainbow as well.

Yea last time they were stocked was 2002 and they were on average 9.5" long. This fish was 22.5" Doesnt seem unrealistic to say it was one of those

The rainbows look like that in the Upper lake. I caught several before the last stocking in 2002. There definitely is some recruitment going on in that lake, because a 22 inch rainbow is about a 6 or 7 year old fish from there.

The slash is not a positive identifier as I have seen stocked pothole trout with slashes. Check the fins for white leading edges or white tips.

This one does, therefore I'd call rainbow.

Although still not a positive identifier, read the last sentence.

I think this article is pretty clear.....I agree with EP2 on this one. Id def say a rainbow.

I fished with someone once who claimed like every second fish we caught was a cut bow. I started to think it was because they knew the 2 were similar but couldnt tell the difference hahahah (thats not a knock on you beeguy)
