VERY nice payday indeed! In January, a 752lb Pacific Bluefin Tuna sold for $396,000.
An old pal captains a tuna boat out of NS and the biggest he's done was just shy of 850lbs a few years ago. The world record is ~1150lbs IIRC, so a 950lb fish is pretty damn impressive.
Thanks for posting, Rocky.

Been there and done that. I caught mine off Auld's Cove {spelling?} It was 1080lbs caught around 1983 or 84. One of the greatest rushes of my life.
My buddy caught one in the 1400s and it wasn't the record at that time. If I remember right the record is just over 1500lbs.
They school up near the causeway in November each year trying to follow their traditional route between Cape Breton and the main land.

Awesome catch. Quite the hardware those guys use. Reel looks like a wench I could use on my quad.
What species of Tuna would that be?

Great catch, congrats! Not sure what kind of payday you guys talking though.... when I was there two years ago it was 800$ for boat trip for tuna fishing and captain keeps tuna if cought. Unless rules here are different.

I think the world record is 1496 pounds, if I'm not mistaken.
Fantastic fish by the way. Last summer I went out with the same guy, but only for some makeral fishing. It was also interesting because there were a ton of eels were the guide docked his boat.
