Default Lakeland Fins & Skins

Have you ever wondered, where can I combine a fishing trip with a golfing holiday? Look no further than Alberta's Lakeland region. Start your trip with a round of golf at the beautiful St. Paul golf course located right in the town of St. Paul. This well matured course offers golfers a challenging 18 holes through rolling hills and boreal forest areas. A perfect place to stay is the Whitney Lake Provincial Park located a short drive from the town. After your round of golf give Laurier Lake in the PP a try for jumbo perch with fish up to and over 1lb. being caught regularly. Your next stop should be the community of Bonnyville. With the Bonnyville golf club located directly across the road from the local walleye factory called Moose Lake, this is truly a fins and skins nirvana. The Bonnyville course is one of the most difficult in the area with long narrow fairways and enough water hazards to keep any golfer on there toes. Cmping is available directly across the road from the course right on the shores of beautiful Moose Lake. You could get up early, go fishing on the lake and have a tee time booked later in the day and with the excellent walleye fishing in Moose Lake, a fish fry is more of a sure thing than a hole in one. Heading north your next stop should be the Village of Ardmore to give its 9 hole course a try. This course is perfect for new golfers and kids just starting out. The bonus on this course is that it has its own trout pond that is stocked regularly with rainbow trout from the Cold Lake fish hatchery. The pond can easily be fished from shore and is a great place to take the kids and, picnic areas are located around the pond so don't forget to bring a lunch. Your final stop on your Lakeland fins and skins tour should be in the City of Cold Lake. With 2 courses right in the city, booking a tee time is never a problem. The Grand Center golf course offers golfers a challenging 18 holes on this well maintained course with water and beautiful scenery throughout the layout. The other course is the City owned Palm Springs course located at the Cold Lake Golf and Winter club on 4-Wing. This course is the most challenging on the tour with long hitters having an advantage due to the long narrow fairways and difficult greens. After your round of golf hook up the boat and go after some of the giant lake trout that swim in Cold Lake. Trolling with downriggers and vertical jigging white tube jigs will catch these great fighting fish. The City of Cold Lake has many hotels and the wonderful M.D. of Bonnyville campsite located right in the city on the shores of the lake. Be sure to book early to be assured a room or a campsite. So pack up your clubs and the boat and head out to Alberta's Lakeland. See you soon!
