Default GoPro setup for ice fishing?

I just recently received a GoPro3+ Black for Christmas and I was hoping to take it out on the lake this weekend and capture some good old under ice footage. Does anyone have any idea how to set this up (equipment...etc)? I was thinking maybe a GoPole stick, but it can only extend so far and I would have to keep holding it... Anyone have any nifty thoughts?

This video should help get your creative juices going.

Home Depot is a great place for do it yourself gopro stuff.

Here is a link to a page I did a long time ago with other ideas......

Whatever you do use a good Rope not fish line!

Just get the tripod mount... a cheap tripod. Attach a fishing line or rope and lower to the bottom pointed at your hole. Usually if clear water can just look down hole to alight. If its too deep I use an underwater camera to align.

Good luck.

My setup consists of a gopro pole. Attach the gopro and stick it down the hole. Switch between hands when you feel the burn. it takes some time to getting used to. Make sure the strap is around your wrists

I have several but my favorite is an adjustable broom pole with a 1/4" bolt, wing nut and the tripod mount

Initially I was thinking of just suspending the the camera attached to a pole under water. The video would be upside down but a simple inversion in the editing software should do it.

Would you ever have your tripod opened when you're trying to pull it out of the hole, and get stuck because it's opened?

You can set the camera to invert the recording on the camera or with your phone.

I bought and sell a 5 foot telescoping pole that I will rig up to accept my GoPro, way cheaper than a GoPole. PM me if anyone in the Edmonton area would like one.

What do you mean by the tripod mount? I have purchased a retractable pole and looking at how to mount it above the ice.

I used 4 3/4" pvc pipes with connectors. My goPro is anchored to the lower pole about 16" from the bottom. I just connect as many as I need to reach the bottom an stick into the bottom to stabilize it.
I took it one step further and added an antenna wire from the camera to my phone so it doubles as a underwater camera.
