Hi Guys, nice big papa today, weighs in at 31 lbs, missed two yesterday, figured they were a little far out so I aim a little high,(I know for a fact that I should be aiming dead on), both of them give three small barks and take off, I figure they should be back within a week.

Lol is there a award for the ugliest yote? Got a very ugly one awhile back! Was calling and it was a 13 yards before i saw it, dropped it at 25 yrds!

Went out this morning and did some calling with a friend. Watched three of them coming up the river on the ice after about 15 minutes of calling. Moved about 75 yrds to a better position when they where behind a hill and had 2 come to the top of a hill about 60 yrds away while the 3rd on stayed out on the ice. My friend was watching the one on the ice when the 2 reached the top of the hill so he didnt see them till i started shooting! My first shot rolled one and scared the one on the ice. Second shot dropped the second yote and then i took 2 shots at the third one down on the ice, missed both times! Looked back and the first coyote i shot was up and running again down a ravine so followed it and finished it off

After watching this thread for 4 months on a course in NB, spending last weekend in the hospital (unexpectedly), and all week at work, I finally get to take my new yote rig to the range tomorrow and with any luck at all (ducking for lightning strike) I'll be able to get out Sat morning for the first time. Gonna be using a Foxpro Spitfire for the first time also. Great looking thread so far. Keep them coming. Demo

Very nice looking fur. I'm trying my hand at skinning and tanning this year. Should be fun!

Smile Yote # 5

Took my two nephews out coyote hunting with me today. (Ages 2 & 4) We managed to make this guy stop @ 250 yards on the edge of a slough. All we could see was his head and neck through the cattails so I lined up the 250 yard mark on the rapid Z varmint retical on the new Zeiss and punched a hole in his neck. He dropped like a bag of groceries. This is the first prairie poodle I have pointed the new scope @ I like it.

Ended up getting a bunch more in the last week or so. Put this year's count up to 26.

I really had to work for this one. I spotted him and another one from the far, far hillside right behind my gun barrel and ended up putting a 2 hour stalk on them. Luckily it worked out for me because I ended up walking a 5 km round trip up and down the breaks just to try a run at them. I slept well that night.

No field pics on these last 4. Just got kinda tired of digging the camera out and setting up for pictures. Here they are at home though.

I went out on Sunday morrning and did a couple of sets, on the second set I was just about to leave when I saw movement to my right, she also saw me and went back into the bush. I got ready and let out pup in distress and she poped right back out and I let her have it.

AO Predator hunt ... great idea !

I will be happy to donate some Dan Thompson Predator calls to be used as prizes as you see fit. Maybe a Ghost Blind as a Major prize if you have that category. Let me know.

Here's to a successful venture. We have to thin the Coyote population out somehow.

I got three today. All fell to the 243 win with 58gr Vmax. Zero fur damage today. And the yotes went straight down or spun a few times then dropped. I find the 58gr vmax is very fur friendly, unless you hit bone. Then it gets messy.

The one was a very far shot. 385 yds paced off. I missed the first shot, but nailed im the second shot. Lucky shot though through the hind legs, I had to finish him with the 17 hmr when I walked up on it.

Default Yote # 8

Went out this morning and found this guy rooting around at the neighbors place and held dead on with the rapid Z and let him have it. Real nice coat on him. They have been eating well.

Here is the first Raccoon I've ever got. It seems like you never see these things in the daylight so I was very surprised to see him out in a stubble field having an early dinner. I used a 204 Ruger which seemed perfect. Bullet blew up after entry and no exit. He was in great shape with heavy winter fur. I plan to make a Davey Crockett hat for my boy with it.

I also shot this big Male coyote. I didn't shoot any of them during deer season this year but I plan to do a better job this winter on them.

Sunday morning we cut the track of a wandering tom where he crossed a logging road, track was fresh in the new fallen snow, probably 4-6 hours old. released my old hound and he took after the track, cold trailing it silently. i walked out the track with a pup and he took up the trail as well, on his first lion hunt ever.

six hours later we returned to the rig successful, although all of us took quite a beating. the trail was approximately 4k from start to finish with an additional few k's to return to the truck. i had done a 40 k sheep hunt(three days) earlier in the year and it was a walk in the park compared to this hunt.

after numerous bayup's i took a young male lion that weighted in at 135lbs.shot(3) distance was one foot with a 44 mag,225gr hornady FXT. his front pad was 2.35" and his hind 2.08" probably 3-5 years old. his hide scarred up from numerous battles, some fresh, measured out to 7.5'. as well, somewhere along the way he had lost a third of his tail.

keeping sheep on the mountain.
