looks to me like that bolt punched thru the shoulder and blew up the heart. With no Blood pressure its very common to see little bleeding. especially on a non pass thru.

Peace Country...ish 😉

Zones like 406, 312 etc get hit so hard by the weekend warrior / quad / truck jockeys screaming on their Quaker Boy bugles off their quads and out the window of their pickups that the Elk are pretty tight lipped unless you get way in there. Not that there aren't bad areas for that crap up here too (like the Saddle Hills on a Saturday morning....might as well have fromt row tickets to a Circus lol).

I've probably gutted a hundred elk,

the heart is just near the back of the front leg, in the lower 1/3 of the chest cavity , pretty hard for that broad head entry spot, to have stopped the heartbeat on impact,,,,

Curious what broadhead he uses, entrance is small. Looks like a solid shoulder hit....but blood on the back side.

Pilot hole?

That's what I've been saying something doesn't look right bolts are not that long and high shoulder hit no blood and if passed through be a lot less bolt left

x2, those are pretty wary elk, and rarely too vocal in my experience.

and if frogs had shorter legs they'd bang their ass when they hopped; let this guy have his day and thank him for sharing!

Back on track, had bull just screaming it's mind off Friday, cow calling for 10-15 minutes, yesterday got to watch bull chasing cow all over field and second bull nose down looking for action. Then had cow wondering around at like 2pm. This is up in 500 zones. There going full on, think cold mornings really helping!

Heard them bugling Friday morning in 404 just as it was getting light - about 1km from road in thick timber. Three bugles about 5-10mins apart and then silence. From tracks in the fresh snow, it looked like at least one bull was on patrol - cruising for cows.

They were lighting up in my spot this morning. Had two bulls going, one was dang close but never did see him.....

Was a great morning in the elk woods - can't wait to keep trying!
