Default Red Deer R - just plain awesome!

Spent a good day at the RDR yesterday. Some of the new spots I found earlier really paid off. Caught a ton of walleye, well over 20 for sure. Only managed one rocky white but it was so fat! Probably a female full of eggs. Big fight of the day, had a 7 wt rod and streamer. Could not control this fish and could not lift it. Lots of runs out into the current and back. Even in the slack water it felt powerful. After 5 minutes or so, found out why. A respectable pike hooked directly in the side. No wonder. After a quick pic and a good revival, she swam off nicely.

No wind in the morning, great. Hurricane force in the afternoon...but hey, it's AB.

Fantastic day out!

And I thought it was quiet on the weekend. The wife had a conference in Red Deer on Tuesday so I took the day off to tag along and go fish the RDR

Nobody but me. Perfectly nice weather and no wind. Caught a lot more walleye and pike. I did see some browns rise but maybe a total of 3 all day....still. It was good to see. Everytime I casted something near them I had a walleye on...can't complain.
