Anyone think Chia might looking at Justin Faulk? Heard he was real interested in Ellis but that is off the table now.

I've been reading about that rumor sporadically since before the draft.

*McDavid emphasizes goal scoring over playmaking from the onset - expect 50+ next year

*Lucic comes into camp motivated, angry, and ~220 lbs, not 235

*Nuge plays the entire season on McDavid's wing

*Puljujarvi matures even more and establishes himself with Drat on the second line at 20/21 years old

*Klefbom comes into camp healthy and with luck remains so

*Sekera is further removed from his ACL injury and plays like the confident defender he was in 2016/2017

*Nurse matures and further develops an angry, punishing game

*One of Yamamoto, Bouchard, or Benson make the club out of camp

*Talbot starts the year 0-0, and the Oilers hit the quarter season mark in contention where he doesn't have to play EVERY night

With Sekera likely out the entire year, that bumps the other factors up - notably Nurse's play. Some interesting takes on his contract situation. He probably just got more money regardless of term due to the Sekera injury alone. I like the idea of bringing in Brandon Davidson on a PTO - in no way does this injury make Bouchard any more "pro-ready".

I see great things ahead from Yamamoto. Sekera’s done, give him a job sharpening skates, or sweeping the dressing room.

One thing the Oil needs is either a sniper, or target practice for the entire team for the full training camp. I think that is the top 3 reason a team has a good or bad season, is how well their players shoot.
McJesus or Dri will put the puck in your lap, but you gotta hit the damn net with intent to bury it, not just throw it in the direction of the net.
You don’t need defense when your scoring. Yet you do need scoring defensemen. Just ask Paul Coffey’s teammates.
In today’s NHL, making playoff predictions preseason is making an a$s of yourself. The difference between #1 and #32 has never been so small. I’m not talking wins, goals for or against. I’m talking skill and ability.
Another top 3 factor is the 7th man. Edmonton (Rexal / Rogers) has turned into a library again. Both the flames and oilers Cinderella years are perfect examples of that. Excited and supportive fans, make warriors of every player. It is a 2 way street, but the fans need to put their phones down and make some noise. And the $12 a beer doesn’t help with that.

Hey, if the Oilers need another moral booster, as they are clearly having issue competing against NHL caliber rookies, I think some local midget teams are taking to the ice soon.

No idea, and I don't really care. Whoever it was they just beat up the Oilers best picks even though we didn't pick till what, the 4th Round.

I wouldn’t get too excited about pre-season. Edmonton was 6-2 in last year’s preseason. Calgary was 2-5. Just sayin’.

Cheers.

Edmonton will once again be out of the hunt by December.

Your (lack of) hockey prowess shines brightly
Lot of teams would love that German "dud" in their lineup
My guess is Nurse is signed on day #2 of the regular season. Just a guess though

Draisaitl is a decent hockey player that every team would want.
Can't say the same about his contract.

Oilers are in cap hell. They should have seen it coming a few years ago.

That contract is going to be a huge bargain down the road.
He was a beast in his first playoff experience....as a 21 year old

Default The German Dud

To be a "beast in the playoffs" they need to get there first. That requires a decent defence which is something the SOILERS do not have

To be fair, its not even really "per-season", pre-pre-season. I'm just glad the Flames rookies spanked them, twice, after what I thought was a distasteful game against collage kids.

Minus Sekera (who is out), same defense they had 2 years ago in the playoffs

I believe the consensus is that everybody is simply going to be better this year. Also read as, since our roster didn't really change, our only choice is to hope everybody simply plays better this year so let's all use this theory, and remain united!

They had zero secondary scoring last year so there has been significant change to the make of the 3rd and 4th lines

Everyone would have liked to see them acquire a #1 d-man but there was less on the market this year than last. It sure would have been fun watching Karlsson hitting McDavid with those saucer passes.

Lucic and Talbot....... both need to be much better and especially Talbot. You can hide Lucic on the 3rd or 4th line (that sucks at his salary)... but there is no hiding Talbot.

Talbot is on his contract year.
Something tells me he will be motivated to be better this season. Always happens.

Cap hell because they pay under achievers too much over and over again.
