Dispatching Skunks
I'm wondering if it is legal to dispatch skunks with an acetone injection to the chest? Firearm options are not available since I live in the city. I also really don't want to have the skunk to "go off".

the exhaust from your truck will kill them, just put the trap in a garbage bag and hold on to your exhaust pipe.

Water barrel. Exhaust is hit or miss depending on the motor you are using. If they wake up, you could be in for trouble.
Anything you do to them, including a perfectly placed bullet to the brain stem, will still allow them to 'leak'. Seems they are always pressurized, for lack of better term.

Had a friend I worked with that loved trapping city skunks. If you had a problem, just ask, he worked in a huge workforce and live next to a wild area. Anyway he kept a barrel filled with water in his backyard for dispatch.

People have been using Acetone for years and years, south of the border mainly. It's been a very true and true technique. Still is cuz you carry a syringe pole and and little bottle of crap, fill up the syringe, stick th skunk and he's dead quick and easy and clean. No packing water, live skunks, etc.
Let's say it's the gentlemans method?
However I might add... I just shoot them, too lazy to collect the essence. Actually I just keep entertained doing other things like skinning coyotes.

With the live traps, if you buy the plasticatch traps, they hold water and the skunk can be moved to the hydrant, if that is your forte. I shoot mine in coyote traps, but around the acreage, when we catch skunks it is with the plasticatch, and we carry them over to th garden hose, stand the trap on end and fill with water.
These traps are self contained units, skunks can be moved in them without them spraying, also skunk doesn't spray as you fill the trap with water. Would be handy in a city, shouldn't go to jail for drowning a skunk in the trap... key word "shouldn't".

I have done the same as Marty mentioned by standing the plastic trap on end and filling it with water for a few years - works great and never had the skunk spray.
Last week I had one discharge underwater during the swim test- took many washings with the pressure washer to get it clean again.

It does work but it takes a long long time.
You're right there are better options.
I haven't tried acetone but I would hedge a guess that it would be quicker than drowning.

Use a 220 coni if you gonna kill them anyway....live traps are for relocating in my opinion. Throw a rotten egg in a five gallon pail cut a couple slots for the springs and whammy there is your skunk. Cats won't stick there head in there for a rotten egg. Cats want fresh and prefer to kill their own meals. I live in a small town with a nice bunch of skunks I don't mind them at all they don't dig up my garden like a fox and they don't kill all the songbirds. If you pick up your garbage you won't even know they are there.
