Arrow vid of some german "walleyes" being caught in Hamburg

Cool vid I found the other day. The game fish we have here get much, much bigger in Europe! Wish our walleyes got this big! (mayb some do but not many!)

I caught a 3 lb perch in Ireland, and was told that they get to be up to 6 lbs. My cousin has a 35 lb pike mounted from the same water body (Lough Derg).

Are you sure it was 35lbs? The irish love to embellish things.

I obviously could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure those are not walleye. They are Zander. Look at the tail, it is clear. Also, the soft dorsal fin looks bigger then the spiny dorsal. Have not seen too many walleye like that.

Maybe by putting walleye in quotes you knew this though...

Nope you are not mistaken lol they call themselves the ZANDERfreaks, though they look VERY similar to walleye

Zander and Walleye belong to the same genus, Sander.

Sauger are also in this genus.

All 3 are unique species.

There are a couple other species in Europe as well.

Perhaps we should introduce Zander and develop some blue ribbon Sander fisheries in AB.
