Default Trolling for Whites?

Hey Guys
I see some guys troll for whites using flies. I'm headed out to Talbot and Rock Lake next week and would love to try this. How is it done?

never trolled for whites, but I have trolled flies.

Fly trolling is cool because the line tracks behind your boat instead of cutting corners like mono does when trolling a spinning rig.

give it a good amount of line, especially if you're trolling shallow in a big boat. I like to give the line a slow tug and release once in a while (so the fly scoots forward and then stops for a sec).

Reaaallly long fluorocarbon leaders. Typically this is done at maligne with sinking lines and large patterns, the famous double shrimp or various streamers.

Good luck at talbot. i got one strike all day, and it didnt stick. the lake whites know whats going on. best bet is get there before the sun is coming up, so you can hit the start of the hatch, once the fish fill up on caddis the action is mostly over. rockies at rock lake are a little more aggressive. try a size 14-18 backswimmer, small muddler, or damselfly nymph imitation - something that should be moving.

post pics if you get em.
