Default Close call! And bad day for a guy in the Hat

I have been snowplowing with my Payloader, and am worried the loader is a bit too heavy, I am nervous about tearing up pavement. I did find out how to make 'float' work but there is always the possibility.
I came across a very nice tracked Cat skidsteer on Fbook, and the guy was very interested in a trade. He also had a Mustang skidsteer.
Long story short, he was arrested for being in possession of stolen goods (cat skidsteer), the Cat and Mustangs were both seized, along with the 17g in his pocket for selling his 3rd skidsteer.
He was able to show the RCMP receipts from all units, even had a VIN search on his phone for every unit, which of course the RCMP seized.
Now he gets a big long fight to prove his innocence.
I am sure glad he didn't load it up and trade that day.
I am offering as much help as I can, I have told him a lot of what I have read in here, mostly from Huntnstuff. Shut up, make them work the case, don't say anything that could incriminate you even if you are innocent, etc.
Scary stuff.

Questions is did the guy really do his due diligence and get hoodwinked on multiple skid steers or is the ‘info’ in his phone and the receipts all of his own creation? For it to make any sense at all he’d have to have purchased them all from the same seller to be getting consistent bad info on stolen property. It would be an awful coincidence if he bought each unit from a different seller and each turned out to be hot.

To me the first assumption is Occam’s Razor
