Default Opinion on this boat, I may buy it.

What do you guys think of this boat ?
I will have to drive to Ontario to pick it up.
Looks to be a lot of boat for the $$ he’s asking.
Looks to be in prime condition for the year too.
Dash could be stripped down and redone.
Can puddle around in AB or take it to the coast.

My god thats a steal of a deal. Even if it didnt run it would be a great buy. I think you could arrange transport to town not sure what it would cost. I remember of a thread that a guy goty his boat transported for like 1500 bucks.

I figure my gas would be $1000 - $1200 for the trip.
He says it runs top-notch, no problems.

Thumbs up

$6 can of paint for that trailer and your good to go. I wouldn't recomend launching it in any puddles though! LOL JK

Lots of boat there thats for sure, are you sure you can handle it? Maybe you should let Mrs. Tbark drive!! Sorry bud couldn't resist. jk

I'd go get the boat myself, then you can make a fishing trip out of it!!

Default Boat looks good

Boat looks great and price is great , doesnt look like there is enough

trailer there and rollers and aluminum riveted boats usually dont jive .

If its in the soo it might have spent its life in the water so sitting on those

rollers

might not be an issue ....

My .02 cents

Thats a heck of a nice boat. I don't know much about boats but with comparing this one to the one my buddy just bought for $7800, I would say a heck of a deal.

Nice boat! The only comment I'd make is that she might be a bit under powered with the 3.0L, but then again she's a cruiser not a ski boat so it shouldn't be an issue. Like BBJ says, even if you had to replace the motor thats still a deal.

I'd go fishing with you in that boat! You might want to see what it would cost to get it shipped to you on a train or something. $1200 in fuel plus hotels, food and travel travel time might make getting it shipped to you more viable. As long as you got somebody on the other end to line things up for you I would say don't pass this one up.

Tbark, that is a heck of a boat for the price, and don't forget, it's OBO to boot. I just drove to Kelowna and back over a weekend to get my 16.5' trihull as I have learned that you don't buy a used boat in Alberta. BC and obviously Ontario have better deals. Can you get your cousin to do a compression test on the engine? How about installing a new set of wheel bearings in. Cheap insurance for a long trip IMHO. That puppy needs to go Salmon and Halibut fishing on the coast.

Default Nice boat

BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! heck at that price you cannot loose! And there are plenty of lakes here that can handle that size, A little 30 plus hour drive and it should be yours to hear that motor and take it for a ride. Find a co pilot and git er done! Good fishin!

Do some research on the leg some older models I have heard have problems.
I,m not a big fan of rivetts thats why I sold my lund and went with welded.
But you will like the room and with that rig no more worries about campsites, now you just have to worry about lighting haha

I too agree on the trailer. Way too small in my mind for that boat plus as stated before, rollers and aluminum riveted boats is not a good thing.

Other than that, that is a steal.

Thanks guys,
Others have told me that rivetted boats are not preferred on the coast.
But it does look solid and deep.
Another option is to buy another better trailer, maybe tandem.
I'm told the boat is only 1800 lbs.

FYI - Lots of boats for sale in NW Ontario ... week economy and high gas prices. I'm sure this is not the only "deal"

I'm going to be the "devil's advocate" so to speak, and just try to present some downsides that you might want to consider. I know that personally, I want to hear both sides in a situation like this, not just "yes".

- It's not really ideal for AB style fishing. There's not much usable space for the size of the boat and it sits high off the water. What would you do with the berth space on a typical trip? Would you ever over-night in the boat as opposed to camping?

- It's WAY underpowered in my opinion. Those old OMC sterndrives don't have the best reputation either, and parts could be hard to come by these days with OMC no longer in existence.

- A new trailer is a must IMHO. I'd be looking at a new trailer before I even towed it home. Most boating and fishing in AB means trailering to the lake, and there's no way I'd be pulling that boat back and forth through the mountains on that trailer, a good trailer is critical. I'd guess you're looking at between $1000-3000 for a new trailer depending on whether or not you can find one used, which could be tough.

Other than that, it does look to be in good shape and it definitely looks like it'll handle some pretty big water. I can't comment on the price because I don't really know what the market is for similar boats, especially in the USA, but it seems pretty cheap.

At any rate, that's my $0.02.

Also - inboard/outboards are no longer as popular as they once where, most likely because the outboards are so much better these days. The newer OMC (like this one) are much better than the real old OMCs.

TBark,

Not a bad deal on that rig. I had one of those OMC drives in my 86' Campion had to rebuild the leg (twice!!!). I wouldn't worry too much about the engine they tend to stand up fairly well in my experience with them. Not enough power for that size of boat though, that is the big downfall.

If you are serious about buying a boat like that check out this web site: http://www.commonwealthboatbrokers.com/

Watch it for a while and you will find newer boats at great prices. They are all in the US but probably just about as close as Ontario.

Good luck with whatever you decide
