Not much experience shore fishing the lakes around here with much success, but I would recommend the Weir at Slave Lake on the Lesser Slave River. Can drive right to it and can catch almost anything there. Saw my first Goldeye as a kid come out of there, and a Burbot. Lots of pike and walleye get caught there as well. There's also a few places around the lake that I believe have boats for rent, not 100% positive on that but it's a big lake and someone should be offering something like that.

Beaver Lake by Lac La Biche has a campground with boat rentals. I do believe it's called fish n friends? You can also camp at Spruce Point and fish right off shore for Walleye's and Northern's.

You know what you need - and I am not being snide- Barry Mitchells fishing guide,, it's great for not only finding what's in a lake but gives directions to the lakes, after that, it's just a read of the regs for that body of water and reading what those fish like lure-wise.

Barry's guide is how a lot of us started learnin as newbs before the internet, and this site has a million plus posts on what each species likes including the lakes and those particulars.

Still, the best advice I can give is; a lake has fish, go to it and fish,, you dot even need to research that much.

I agree. Used it myself to learn the lakes/reservoirs/rivers.

Most of the convenience store magazine racks have a copy or ten.

Seven Eleven, The Red Ripoff, Macks, Hub, North Town Texaco, John's Coffee Counter.

Why go north ? I'd go south if anything . Them walleye resivours are an absolute blast to fish , but get windy . I don't know maybe different strokes for different folks but that's what I'd do , heck I've considered moving , never mind just for a weekend .

I don't think there are lodges at Peerless/Graham lakes. The guide you posted the link to says on there they stay at the campsites at the lake...

Definety cold lake . From expierence we caught 145 fish in three days of camping there fishing four hours a day . You can rent boats there and in those three days we caught walleye , pike and some lake trout .

When the lake is rough, I'm pressed for time, or I just dont feel like launching the boat I usualy head out to Devonshire beach (on slave lake) and have pretty good success. Heres a detailed, darn near surefire, way to pick up a feed of walleye and a few pike any time from June to mid July, the later in the season you go the more your success will be confined to early morning and late evening.

Park at the far wheel chair ramp and head a little further up the beach, from trolling that beach I know it gets deep a little faster there. Wade out up to your chest, early in the season your going to want waders, the sand is in bars there so it will get deep and then shallow again, probably about the third time you get up to your chest you've gone far enough. Throw out a pickerel or lindy rig and work it back very slowly. If you want you can wade back to shore and just wait for a bite but with that much line out you need to use earplugs to get your bait to float off the bottom.

As well there is the river which provides good fishing from shore, and Lilly lake where after a brisk 3 km hike you can fish a beautifull little lake for some nice brookies. Honestly I cant think of a better region for the shorebound angler to waste a weekend at. If you make it out here shoot me a PM.

Or go to the real Northern Alberta, Eva Lake, Wentzel Lake, Margret Lake, Bistcho Lake, Bison Lake or maybe even Lake Claire.

Too bad you can't drive to any of them.

I have fished Bison lake a dozen times (from shore only) and have only ever caught small pike.

I would go no further then Haig, maybe to Devils canyon for small grayling.

Try the Calling River where it enters the Athabasca. Nice scenery, don't need a boat, good fishing most days, wind never is a problem.

ORRRR start looking for a 14 footer with a 15 hp, and you are set.
