Default Bow River - Ghost Dam

Hit the river in the NW from about 5-645 this evening with the little lady.

Bit of a mixed bag of fish today.

Started with a brookie....rrrrrr
then this thing

Then a beautiful little cutbow with a full on orange throat,

then a bunch of these no fight fish, this being the biggest one followed by several 14-16"ers

and then we pulled out a couple hard fighting rockies before it was time to go.

Nothing of any size today, but quite the assortment of fishes.

Nice pics man thanks for sharing

Being in Edmonton I don't know much about the Bow but I heard Lakers are quite rare especially in that section, and I dont believe I've ever heard of a brook trout being caught in the city? And then the cuttbow? Did you carry along a rabbit's foot or something for the outing? Pretty cool! Gotta love a mixed bag!

It's a laker.

4th one I've pulled from the bow and the smallest at 15.5"

Man do they put up a scrap though.

Didn't get pics of the other browns, cutbow, or brookie as the lady was busy hammering the rockies.

Strange sighting of the day was a dead lake white on shore.

whodathunkit?

I'm sure I mentioned this before, but I hooked a minimum 30" char in that spot last fall season. Couldn't get the net to it and it threw the hook so I'll never know if it was a laker or bull, although I suspect the former.

That spot is fubar at night when the big bruins get foolish.

It would be awesome to swim around there with a camera.

But that's a job for someone else.

Probably looks like a shark tank.

Lakers have forked tails rest have square tails, easiest way to tell them from a laker. Nice fish good color.

I looked it up in my Fishes of Alberta 1st Edition

said it was a Salvelinus mykiss, sea run from Alberta's coastal range.

Pretty rare catch for the Bow.

A full cutthroat out of the Bow?

That question is a bit of a bag of worms.

I've caught some gorgeous hybrids that look more cuttie than rainbow, however I'm sure that genetic analysis would show that there are no "full cutts" remaining in the Bow River.

This is the great tragedy of introducing species which can hybridize with native stocks. Once those genes enter the population, there is no method of removing them.

Where are the lakers coming from? Are they washed thru the ghost dam or swimming up from bearspaw resevoir. Not sure where you are fishing (and not lookin for u to divulge your spot) just assuming it's around cochrane and curious about the origin of the lakers.

They get washed out of ghost as far as I know.

Just outside cochrane.

Check my thread " a river runs through it" for more details.
