if you reload then 270wsm, if not 270 or I'd prefer 30-06, just my two bits

I have both and there is no real adavnatge to the WSM unless you shoot the heavier (150 grain) bullets. WSM is intrisically more accurate because of the short throw, but it also depends on the rifle and the ability of the man behind it!

My 0.2 cents

as mentioned if you reload cost wise the WSM makes sense because you can have ammo for roughly the same price as the regular 270. If you don't reload costwise the .270 is much cheaper than the WSM as well as more readily available. The differences between the rounds are Long action vs. Short Action, the WSM is more efficient at burning the powder than the .270. the wsm also is a few fps faster and has a few more ftlbs behind it. As a result it will shoot a bit flatter/further. Its apples and Oranges. Personally I don't think i'd buy one but then i've never shot one so I dunno. lol good luck

Naw...it's just newer and cooler. At the end of the day both will do the same job. The WSM is a bit faster and for those that like short actions it offers that advantage but I just like it because it's new....well that and my current one shoots a .38 group.....lol

2 ways of looking @ it.....

if you reload.....you can make the 270 win the same as a store bought 270 wsm.....but then you can jack up a 270 wsm a little heavier the the store bought 270 wsm....kind of confusing....

2nd....if you don't reload, then have fun finding shells for the 270 wsm....there around, but not everywhere like the 270 win....

i was in the same pickle 2 years ago....could not make up my mind.....
270 win was the winner......and i reload,so everything is in a toonie @ a hundred yards and fast....

killed and elk last year....a nice white tail....decent mule deer and i got a moose this year....honestly every animal was dead on the first shot....except the mulie....that is another story....go win....

If one wants to step up from the .270 win I feel that the 7mm Rem mag is the logical choice, the 270 wsm is just splitting hairs. I prefer the .270 win myself.

You'd have trouble getting factory 270WSM velocity out of a .270 Win. In fact, getting within 200fps is about as close as you can get while maintaining accuracy. My .270WSM tops 3200fps with 140 grain bullets and factory ammo.

270WSM shells can be found at any decent gun shop or sporting goods store.

0.38 groups there is little wonder why you like it so much. Help this guy out and tell him what setup you have.

.270 WSM...I like the extra zip of the magnum, recoil is about the same as the .270 and .270wsm ammo can be found at any sporting goods store that I've been in, why would you buy the regular .270 when you can have a .270 WSM.... I have the Browning A bolt topped with a leo 3.5 X 10 X 50 it is the most accurate gun in the cabinet now....

This is in an RMR rifle but I've had two other 270WSMs in a Sako A7 and both of those were shooters too. No doubt you could achieve the same with a .270Win.....I've just had good luck with the three .270WSMs I've owned.

270WSM love mine. Why buy a car that is air aspirated when you can get the supercharged version.

BTW A supercharged .270 is the weatherby
the .270 wsm is an expensive middle of the road option
my beater Rem .270 win shoots flat, and hits two inch groups at two hundred yards using federal 150 gr ammo @ $20 a box from wally world
junk rifle and junk ammo
its meat on the plate :O)
got it made with a .270 win

Shooting the same 140 - 150 grain bullet the 270 WSM tends to be about 200ft/sec faster out of the muzzle with factory ammo than the .270 Win. Thats similiar to the difference between a 30-06 and a 300 Win Mag shooting the same 180 grain bullet. If you consider the difference between a 30-06 and 300 Win Mag to be significant then you'd have to say the same when comparing the .270 Win and 270 WSM.

If I want faster than the 270 Winchester, I'm going to .284.

My feelings as well. The .270 wsm balisticly fits into a pretty much imaginary gap.

Coincidence?! Haha

Pushing 150 grain Winchester grey box ammo at 3150fps (chronographed) puts the 270 wsm in the same imaginary gap as the 7 RM.

Well if its the same as a 7rm then the gap would be entirely imaginary.

My 89 year old uncle decided to replace his old 270 Huskavarna, after about 50 years, and countless moose shot with 130 Win PP ammo. He didn't like the 150 Win PP as he couldn't get used to the difference in trajectory. The only reason he wanted a new rifle because his rifle had been drilled and tapped crooked so it was impossible to mount a scope properly. His eyes were getting a bit dim to use the peep sight with V-notch on top, for long shots, that he had built for the rifle.

I Bought him a Tikka SS T3 Camo, in 270WSM, as he preferred to have a rifle with a clip. I mounted a Burris Fullfield 4.5-14 X44 with AO and the Ballistic Plex reticle. The Nosler 140 grain Accubond at 3000fps matched the BP reticle out to 600 yards and the recoil was manageable in the light rifle. A nearly full case of H 110V, about 60 grains, got just over 3000fps and the pressure was low enough that the once fired necked down 300WSM brass didnt stretch on firing.

This combo dropped a cow elk in her tracks last Dec. I would recommend a 270 WSM over a 270 Win as you can run it safely at velocities that most try to achieve with the 270 Win or you can run it hot, like the factory ammo, if you so choose. The shorter, lighter rifle is a bonus as well. These are the same reasons that I prefer a 7mmSAUM over the 7mm-08 that had come to be my favorite caliber after years of using a 270 Winchester.
