I like to drive into stalls where I can come as close as possible, say 2 or 3 inches, to the rear of a crossover or SUV.

A guy at work would back all the way into the far stall of a "drive-through" spot, just to make us nuts.

Drive through a parking lot, 98% park nose first into the stall. Pretty much makes this poll irrelevant, unless you consider over 60% of AOers who answered backs in. Wonder what that says?

Means the ones who answered Back's in are smarter than the 98% of the people in the lot your talking about.

Been backing in 100% of the time since I started driving almost 30 years ago.

I'm surprised more people don't, backing out of a parking spot blindly for the first 3 or 4' seems silly when it's totally avoidable and with people flying through parking lots, especially when most fender benders are in parking lots.

Always back in unless I can find a place to drive through, and always near the perimeter where there is less traffic. I hate backing out.

Bugs the crap out of me.....
Because when you back in you have full view all around you, no blind spots. Backing out of a parking spot is nothing but blind spots, hence why parking lots are where most fender benders happen.

Takes me about 5 seconds to back into a spot, unless some idiot is riding my bumper then I enjoy making him back up

Is waiting 5 seconds for someone to park really a reason to get annoyed?

Go to any oilfield construction site or facility. Vehicles are all backed in. Proven to be safer and is mandatory on most sites.

Depends what a guy is parking to do. If picking something up then drive in so I can toss it in the back. If not picking anything up then I back in.

That’s because in case of emergency such as a gas release you can drive away rather than have a bunch of people trying to back up then go forward. Not too many emergencies in a parking lot where everyone has to leave at once.

Only one reason. This is policy for green field (new construction) sites as well. Their stats on accidents are what changed it many years ago.

I have no issue backing out of stalls....Why do you feel the need to back in? Still don't get it....You guys that back into a stall must suck at paralell parking as well

Just think of it this way, you are merely one incident away
from all this 'backward parking' making perfect sense.

Don't forget to put your cone in the front of your vehicle and do your walk around picking up your cone when ready to leave.....man I use to chuckle and we still had incidents with all the bubble wrap implemented

So, apparently yesterday some lady was backing into a spot and a guy was driving into the spot, probably hoping to point forward, so he could look like he backed, but she ended up not letting him to park as per his plan. Guy left a racist note for her.

observation
Superstore parking lot 1 hour ago 200 vehicles 0 backed in I'm guessing none work in the oil patch didn't see any orange parking cones either.

Taking safety home as part of the corporate culture isn't observed in real time in most cases. I was just there too picking up some scotch. Pulled through so I could drive out.

Probably says more about your intended victims ability to get out of your way than any perceived backing out ability on your part

Just kidding.

My old boss told me backing in takes up more space.

I don't work for him anymore , for that illogic and many other reasons.

I back in when space permits and I don't hold anybody up.

Pain in the *** to put groceries in the back if you drive in and someone pulls up tight to you!

Well, you'd have to assume they would actually wait and allow someone to back out.

Only three times I drive in: 1) When a lot is extremely busy, if you drive past an open spot to line up for reverse, the little s***box behind you will wheel right in (or block your move by following too close); 2) when I know I will need to load something into the box and it will be blocked by backing in; 3) when driving my little s***box (but not usually).

In general, it's way easier -- and safer -- to drive into traffic than to back into it. Notice who gets out of their spots hassle-free after a game or other event?
