Picked up some ultra-lite gear so I can target lake whites on open water.
Dodger.

I am not going to fish for numbers(unless I bring a newbie or child along) will only be fishing waterbodies that have the highest potential to produce large fish, hello athabasca, nsr, ssr, and a couple of the southern reservoirs. I’m kind of centralized between those waterbodys so not crazy travel times.

Get out in the boat more, catch a sturgeon within city limits, catch more brookies, beat my rainbow PB in Blood Indian, do more "catch and cooks."

My main goal is just to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Last year I got out over 60 times and landed over 300 fish. For me it's mostly about getting out and turning my mind off... fishing is the ultimate "mindfulness" activity for anyone else who is into that kind of thing. I try to get out every weekend, it helps turn off my busy mind.
A couple of things I'd like to try for the first time this year... fly fishing for pike. I'd also like to catch my first walleye... sadly, there a species I've never really targeted, and when I've had the chance to catch them, never had any luck other than catching some pike. There's some irony in the fact that I've caught quite a few golden trout, one of the rarest in the province, and yet never caught one of the most common fish on the prairies, and I grew up in southern AB and I'm originally from southern Saskatchewan.

I want to catch my first halibut as well as new personal best salmon and ling cod(from a kayak too).
I would also like to break some personal bests. Targets include a 30+ inch walleye, 30+ inch bull trout, 22+ inch cutthroat trout, 48+ inch pike, 8+ foot white sturgeon.

Wow, sounds like you'll have to make your way to Crawling Valley this summer for some walleye!

I tried to knock them off my list a few years ago at Pine Coulee ice fishing, but we didn't even mark any fish on the flasher that day. Just my luck lol.

PCR during the winter is a real challenge. A few years ago you could catch 100 in a day during the summer with a slip bobber. Every single fish between 15 and 16 inches, with the very occasional 20 incher. Big pike, though!

Just to get out more this year, I'm semi-retired so I should be able to pull it off. Also do more fishing with my son as he is a new father and wants to get out more so he can teach his daughter as she gets older. Plus I want to fly fish on the N Sask for Goldeye. I live in the city so it can do for an evening here and there.

Being a senior.... stay healthy enough to still be able to climb into my treestands and hold a 65lb 65% let off bow at full draw for 30 seconds and still hit what I'm aiming at. Be able to continuing tying my own flies and be able to fling them 50 feet without sticking a fly in my ear and lastly not lose any more hunting and fishing buddies this year.

I have intel from a fellow fish bio that the best place for them is outflows and use a p-rig. I was shocked when I heard that...

Catch and Release 25 Pike over 40" in Alberta.
Catch and Release another Walleye over 30" in Alberta.
Catch and Release ONE Sturgeon. It all starts with one... This is the year...
Spend more time exploring new places and lakes.
Fish some lakes in BC, Ontario, NWT, and maybe even Montana.

The boat needs to see more bodies of water.
Starting truck bed camping so I also plan on exploring different parts of the province, not necessarily with the boat.

Always have goals.
Explore and learn the Pembina River
Read Trout Highway and Alberta Streams. Maybe take in a couple trips based on the reads. Had these for years and years....about time.
Try and catch a Pigeon lake white on the fly rod.
Explore structure on some lakes from the boat for next ice season
Enjoy the Eastern slope rivers especially since they remain open
Fish the Green River, UT. As long as it is not flooded out. And maybe an AZ stream or lake.
Enjoy Jasper, as usual plus another 10-20 bodies of water in AB
Oh, and catch some bug hatches at the right time and thus some big, big browns on the dry!!

Get my son and daughter out ocean fishing this summer, actually do 3 trips and try Rupert in August.
I still have not caught a ling so that's on the list.
2nd trip into LA / Mexico.
