I'm going to be setting a few crayfish traps and have a crayfish feast.

Yes they made it so you can use a dip net, seine net or minnow trap to catch crayfish(along with catching them by hand or by angling).

You must still kill the crayfish immediately and can't use them for bait same as before.

I was just recently told they still haven't printed the new regs yet. They are available online though.

I suppose no one would ever think to bury fish remains after a nice shore lunch in a shallow hole in the gravel cover it with a thin layer of gravel so that you arent chumming and set an empty trap on top of it. I know I wouldnt Im not that clever

Mine is pretty simple, same as every year - get out on the water more!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my quest to never stop learning, it’s that there’s simply no better teacher than time on the water. The trick is to not fish memories and to constantly try to step out of your “comfort zone”, try new techniques, re-try things you couldn’t get to work in the past, and just continue to dial things in.

Uggg, is there ever going to open water?????

Inconnu have always intrigued me. I remember watching an old outdoors show in the 70's and the guys were catching 50+ lb. inconnu in a Yukon river that was half the size of the north saskatchewan river. Big bucket mouths. I always thought they would be neat to catch. Supposed to be great smoked.

Crayfish in the tributaries of the NS river start congregating in late summer to October when they spawn. They should be easier to target when they are congregating. Not so sure about the eating the crayfish from the river. They might be not as clean. I think I would prefer to get some from the lakes.

Yupper. River fishing in the eddies where tributaries join. I've also been given directions to some areas that are supposed to be hotspots.

I've been retired for 5 years and fly fishing for 4, I've yet to catch a Brown trout.
So my goals are to catch me a nice Brown.
Try and get over my fear of bears and cougars and do some stream fishing!
Catch that 10lbs+ pike that I lost on the fly last summer because of stupid decisions!
Just get out more this season, because the open water seasons are getting shorter and I'm getting older! (btw this is the only place I smoke!)

Right now I'm just jacked about fishing big deadbaits for pike, I haven't done that since I was a kid but I remember it being one of the best ways to hook up with big pike. A late ice off is looking inevitable so it should be a good spring for it.

Strung up a new rig for throwing big hunks of meat, hopefully I'll get to hear that old Mitchell sing a few times.

You always could pal. The local F&W officer in Brooks will not only tell you that, he will tell you the best place in SAB to catch big ones, the best way to catch them, and how to prepare them for the table. He's originally from Ont.

He was clear though, do not leave the water body with any live ones. They take that extremely seriously and no breaks will be given.

Call a F&W officer to be sure of that rule.

Down here they say giver with the bait if your going to use those minnows in the same body of water you catch them in.

A minnow trap without bait is an egg basket.

Seems pretty cut and dry in the regs to me ... perhaps they should just make it clearer.
