New rifle
Needing to purchase a new rifle.... It's been a few months since i bought one....  . I have this magnum kick going on right now, what do you think of a .257 weatherby magnum???

It is a very impressive cartridge,I killed deer,pronghorn,mountain goat and elk with mine.Do you handload?Factory loads are quite limited in selection,and they are pricey.

Yes i do handload, And love to handload! I have heard of people taking 7mm rem mag brass or 300 H & H to make .257 brass to save on the price of brass, One thing that strikes me is the kinetic energy of this cartridge  , Im not even sure what i would use this for but its one i think i would love to handload for.

I tried forming brass from the 7mmremmag,but the case necks were too thick,which can cause pressure problems with a tight chamber,like the one on my aftermarket barrel.With the sloppy chamber on my factory Weatherby barrel,it might have been fine.The 257wby is likely as fine a deer/pronghorn cartridge that there is,but you do pay for the extra velocity with shorter barrel life.Accuracy was only so-so with the factory Weatherby barrel,but with the aftermarket barrel,without the freebore,it was excellent.

That is good to know.....thanks for the heads up!!  what did you get for groupin with the factory barrel 1 inch MOA or so?

On average between moa and 1-1/4moa with the factory barrel,but sub 1/2moa with the McLennon barrel.I was using 100gr bullets at around 3500fps.If I was to purchase a factory 257wby rifle,it would be the 700SPS below.It is way cheaper than a Mark V,and it has a 26" barrel,while the Vanguard only has a 24" barrel.

I am a Huge remmy fan!! Just checked cabelas and wholesaleports, they dont have the 700 sps in .257 weatherby any ideas if there is any other company who is selling these??

Since it is a special run,it may only be available in the USA,but that isn't a problem.Call Clay at Prophet River,and he can usually get you any model that is available in the USA,and at a price lower than most dealers.He currently has two special edition guns sitting in Montana for a friend of mine,because they weren't available in Canada.
