Default 300 win hand loads

I just started to hand load for my 300 win mag. Just wondering if anyone has any good loads for me. I have some H1000 powder fed 215 primers and 185gr berger bullets. There doesn't seem to be much info for the berger bullets though. I primarily want to load for some bench shooting but mainly hunting. Has anyone used the berger vld 185gr for their loads?

Just got data from Berger: with H1000 and the 185 hunting bullet, start load 75.5 gr max load 79.5 grs, velocity estimate 2828 fps - 3000 fps. With my Tikka, I'm on the lands at 170 thou more than I can fit in the clip, but still found a wickedly accurate load with 1 grain over max of IMR 7828 in spite of the huge running start.

Hey John
Im going to be reloading the same bullets when I get home. Im guessing yours are the match hunting VLD's right? How many grains of re-22 are you using are you close to max load I am just going by the berger load data i was going to try the re-25. What kind of velocity and accuracy are you getting? What is your overall bullet length? And have you used these bullets on any animals. I have herd great things cant wait to get home and try them out.
Thanks Justin

I'am shooting the 185vlds using H1000 76gr and cci 250 primers dont know the fps on the load but accuracy is unreal. Tried some hotter loads but accuracy wasn't near as good. Thats out of a tikka t3. 300wm and a COAL of 3.34 they just fit in the clip.

try any of the 4831 powders. You won't go wrong.

Hi Justin,

Yes I'm using the orange box, I was using 175gr yellow box but had trouble getting more so I worked on loads for the 190's. I haven't killed anything with them yet but have killed a few things with the 175's from 90 yards out to 450. All have been with one shot; seem to work very well.

I have Sako M995 with 24" barrel and getting 2900fps; COAL is 3.64" and I found to get the best grouping (around 1/2") with 73gr of RL22 (max is 74gr).

Hey Thanks John.
Just a question where did you get your load data from? when you say RL-22 are you talking about alliant powder? I got my load data from berger and they list a re-22, re-25 I am pretty sure they are the same thing just making sure they are. I am shooting a 26 inch barrel I want to try and be around that 2950-3000 fps if possible but accuracy is always everything just hope i can get them flying around that speed if possible. My load data has a few max loads at that 3000 fps mark the RE-25 max load moving just over 3000 ftps.

Got my data from Berger; yes it is alliant powder. I call it RL they call it RE. I don't think you should have problem getting that speed. Good luck and let see your groups when you get your load done.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the help. Did some load work ups there two days ago and shot the best grouping i have ever shot with my gun yesterday.

The load i used was:
76.5 gr H1000
185gr Berger Vld
Winchester Case
Fed 215 magnum primers

This was with a Tikka T3 varmint in 300 win mag. Like i said the best grouping i have ever shot with the gun. .5" at 100 yards three shot.

Thanks again.

I just started to work up some loads for my Tikka .300 Win Mag.
I found 70.0 grains of IMR4831 using a 168 VLD match hunting bullet was showing some good results aswell as 68.1 of 4350 with the same bullet was very accurate.these were only tried at 100 meters on a fully burmed outdoor range but the results were very good so far.
