Default my two cents worth

7-08, 7x57, or 6.5x55 are suitable for all game when loaded with the appropriate bullet, mild of recoil, can be handloaded to modest specs.
My wife's 7x57 has an unblemished one shot record - to be fair, she is a disciplined shooter, never taken a bad shot.
I am not much of a .243 fan, but a well placed bullet on deer sized game should do the job. The .243 is no Moose, Elk rifle.

Default 6.5 x 55

When I saw the tittle of this thread I was thinking 6.5 x 55, but I thought no one would ever take me seriously. But I can see from other posts that the swede is not the secret I thought it was. The 6.5 x 55 is a great little gun I shoot a custom BJI version of it and love it. Having said that there are lots of great guns and cartridges to choose from and from what I can see from the posts, most any that have been mentions would work well.
I am a strong believer that it can be as much about how the shooter bonds with his/her gun as it is about having the perfect gun.
