Simple Fish Recipes
Thought we'd share some simple recipes that you can cook up while on the lake.
One from me:
Open up a tin of smoked oysters, eat the oysters, put the tin over the fire and throw chopped up pieces of fish into the sizzling oil.

I'm pretty classic. For me there is nothing better than pike coated with a little bit of flour and pepper than fried in butter on the good ol's cast iron pan. MMMMMMMMMMMM getting hungry for pike just thinking about it!!!!

Hi ALL, try using a teaspoon of corn startch with a prepared pancake batter mix and it will fluff up your fish to look like english style fish and chips. I always use this receipe when I deep fry my fish. You'll look like the best chef in the world.
enjoy

I tried this one off the " Canada in the Rough" show a few weekends back. It wasn't to bad but needed a bit more flavour.

Pike !!!! people actually eat those things
For me its a lite batter of flour, generous amount of garlic powder, seasoning salt, pepper, salt and little cayenne.. Mix batter in freezer bag toss in fillets shake well and into the butter with a little oil so the butter doesn't burn to bad on medium heat till golden brown...
And oh yah its walleye, perch, salmon, red snapper anything but pike !!!!!!

Pike is great, if it's done right. Bones need to be gone, especially y-bones.
For pike I find the bigger fish that stay deeper, taste better. Smaller ones in warmer areas of the lake aren't as good. The bigger and colder the lake the better the pike.
That's not to say I don't enjoy the others as well, especially trout!
I love rainbows.
I caught an 18lb Chinook and a couple of 5lb sockeyes in BC in '06. They tasted awesome! All I did was put lemon and onion inside the body, wrapped in tin foil and barbequed. YUMYUM

WALLEYES
Your way to mean on lousy Walleye fishermen like me. The upside is I have caught 20lb Pike on all Southern Reservoirs. No Walleye in that category.
I like pressing lots of Cajun spice into Pike fillets and then fry in Butter on low heat.
PIKE RULE!!!

Last year I thought I would try something different so I looked through the fridge.. My wife like to cook a lot of East Indian food so there was a jar of Hot Mango Chutney..(I know it sounds strange, trust me) so I spread it lightly on the Walleye fillets and baked them with a touch of fresh ground pepper until the outer layer had a slight crisp.. I was amazed at the unique and spicey, sweet taste it had. It will be with me on most fishing trips from now on as well as the ingredients to the previous posts.
Go to the Mexican, Chinese, East Indian section of your super market and look near the jarred Curries and you will see it, its called -Pataks Hot Mango Chutney- Enjoy and let me know what you think.

I love to cook up some fish in oil over the fire. Seasoned flour, eggwash, then breaded with crushed corn flakes (I'll add some blended almond or peanut chunks to provide more flavor sometimes as well). By far my favorite way to have most "white fleshed fish" (usually use whitefish or perch with this method, walleye works too but i rarely keep those things ).
For trout just throw the fish in the fry pan right after gutting it (fresh as possible), season with salt and pepper, bit of lemon maybe. Great snack during a day of ice fishing.
mmmmm. making me feel like a fresh mountain trout right now!

Simple one if you have some extra burbot (Ling) fillets kicking around.
-Chop ling into bite size chunks.
-coat with your fav batter or dry mix
-fry till brown
-set burbot aside
-boil some linguine noodles till done
-Quick saute of onion and garlic in oil/butter half and half amounts till onions are soft, maybe add garlic for the last few minutes so it doesnt burn.
-add your favorite pasta sauce or make your own/add onion and garlic to sauce if not already in your creation of sauce.
-Add burbot but dont cook anymore and top your pasta.
You have Burbot ''LING''uine and its mighty fine.

Okay gang here is another favorite receipe. You cannot screw this one up. Place your fillets on some oiled up tinfoil and pour Italian salad dressing over the fillets, wrap them up and ten to twelve minutes a side on the BBQ. This is my favorite salmon receipe, makes pike taste like walleye, hahaha.
enjoy Goose
