That is terrible
That bottom picture altho hard to tell almost looks as it it was right in mission area.
The whole social media thingy might lead to some fishing closures. I have seen some epic ones on the internet.

I've seen the same thing with halibut many times. They put the upper size limit on as people would not voluntarily release the breeding females. Now with the upper limits in effect, obviously over sized females are still played until they are just about done in and then roughly boated for the bragging pictures. They are tough fish but every animal has a limit and I'd bet quite a few end up dieing. I'd say that it's just the guys that don't know better but you see many pics from questionable guiding outfits.

I might have still been asleep but I recall that is how you were handling that one Saturday. lol
See if you use my strategy and don't catch any you don't have to worry about handling them correctly

Agree with the RavYak.
Poor Sturgeon in Pic one... Looks like it was a bloody battle in the boat. Blood on his feet, legs, shorts , arm, chest, all over fish. Poor fish must have been a little anemic after the event. Wonder what the survival on a fish like that would be. I guess they should have rules about not removing the fish from the water, might help.
I'm moving to the lower Mainland, can't wait to tangle with some monster sturgeon when I'm in the neighborhood. Maybe I'll become a sturgeon hunter too . I'll try to keep the instagram pics clean.

When we went anything over say 4 feet no exceptions didn't leave the water at all if you wanted a pic you got in or released at the side of the boat. The guide had told us that was the rules and I was more then happy to oblige.
