River reports
Anyone ha e any news on the McLeod river or the raven river? I'm absolutely itching to get out and figure those two are my last shots to get out this Friday. Otherwise I'm stuck at a stocked trout pond for another week haha. Just curious if it's still a raging river and if it still looks like chocolate milk.
Appreciate the info thanks

I was on the Raven last week. Was really good. Not sure what the flow is like since. Trout were smashing salmon flies...

Will be checking out Stauffer and South Raven on Saturday. Let me know if you'd like to join forces. Leaving from Edmonton.

The wife had never been to Peace River area. Mon - Wed did a small road trip Edmonton - Grande Cache - Grand Prairie - Peace River - Home. From the road viewed several of the flowing waters north of Hwy 16 Berland - Wildhay - Muskeg - LSR - Sheep etc. All dark fast and high. Figure it will be a couple of week before they get suitable for safely fishing. Managed to get a few trout from Victoria Lake outside of Grande Cache.

Normal run off for the Athabasca in the Ft. McMurray area for this time of year- high, fast water, lots of trees and such floating down from upstream.

Took a drive from Edmonton - Innisfail - Caroline to the Trunk and back through Strachan - Rocky and back.
North Raven is way up and dark.
Tay way up which makes it look slow, but its dark.
Clearwater is untouchable. Stopped to take a look near - Snowmobile - and was scared to even let the dogs near. Its really dark and moving.
7 Mile is not too bad but still pretty muddy.
Prairie is really moving but would probably be clear enough upstream of the campsite.
It was pretty stormy in spots but the trunk is in remarkable condition.
Was worth the drive with the old man! He really loved being out there today.

North Raven/Stauffer
Stauffer's flows are actually pretty decent. A little murky in deeper water but great overall. Had an epic day yesterday with afternoon brown drakes and PMDs all day long. Too much fun.

Has anyone been to the Blackstone area down the Forestry Trunk Road yet? I'm wondering if the water levels will be good enough by the weekend.

Did the Red Deer this weekend.
The river is high, turbid and fast. I looked at it yesterday, and it seemed even faster, which leads me to believe the Dickson dam released some more water. Fishing was not great, in fact, my grandson was the only one who caught anything, and it was a clam.

Thanks for reporting back. I was wondering how you made out. That is high for sure. Hoping for a drop in levels by the weekend...hope is fading...
Edit: Wait a tick. Just checked and it has dropped by half in the last 2 days. Levels at Red Deer should be good, game on!

South Ram
Drove out this weekend to the South Ram below the falls. Flow was a little fast and water was murky brown. Have to wait a couple weeks for it to clear up.

North of Grande Cache
Wondering if anyone has been up to the upper Kakwa, upper Wapiti and checked out tribs like the Torrens, Stetson, Narraway? New to the area and was going to go do some exploring this weekend. Hopefully get a line in.

Go south of town and look at the Wapiti, or east to the Smoky, all that water comes from there. Will be a bit yet - Torrens and Narraway could be fishable now. I usually don't get out the till July long weekend and its fine.
Was from GP to Hinton on the 40 past weekend and the only ones that looked ok were Berland and south. Muskeg to Kakwa/Cutbank is high and dirty.

Wondering if the locals would be able to give me an update of the conditions of the Red Deer River?

Brother and I headed out to drift the RDR yesterday. Saw the flows, but no reports on clarity, so we decided to chance it. At the Innisfail bridge we saw there was less than 1' vis. Decided to proceed anyway because history has shown that fishing in dirty water can be quite productive. Drifted from the Dam to the bridge. Caught a few browns, a few walleye and a bunch of these guys.
They were always on my bucket list, just never got around to specifically targeting them. If not for these guys, it would of been a slow day. Curiously the RMW were absent.

Creeks and rivers south west of Edson are clear. They are flowing a little strong still, hard to wade across in spots on the McLeod. Also, fished another river nearby and got into 4 grayling with stimulators. Fun stuff
