Default For those who are looking for great coffee at home, but don't want to break the bank...

I am somewhat of a coffee snob. I sold my Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder about five years ago as I was getting too wired in the morning, and I couldn't teach my wife the art of temp surfing to get a perfect shot, so I got rid of it, and get my fix when I can stop in at Credo or Transcend. Beyond that, I just have a hard time stomaching the coffee at the big chains.

Anyhow, last Christmas at Costco, there were people demonstrating the Nespresso Vertuoline with Aeroccino milk frother. I tried their samples a few times, and if truth be known, the coffee was so dang good that I even went back a couple times just to have another on the house. My wife took notice, and on Father's Day, I opened my gift and it was one of their machines. The pods are a little on the expensive side (.85 for espresso and 1.10 for a regular coffee), but still much cheaper, and less time consuming than driving through your coffee shop of choice. I also have to say that the espresso this machine makes at the press of a button is every bit as good as the nicest shots I could pull on my Rancilio, at about 1/8th the initial investment. And the milk frother is the simplest thing you have ever seen.
Pour your milk in, and a touch of flavored creamer if you like that sort of thing, press a button, and about 60 seconds later you have great steamed milk with tons of dense foam. Way easier than a wand aerator. For those of you who are also very picky about the coffee you drink, you may want to check one of these out. You may be pleasantly surprised. This is no Keurig or Tassimo, both of which we have had.

A friend has one of those systems, makes a decent cup of espresso for sure.

I'll drink near anything coffee as long as it's black and strong.

Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder at our house.
Volume coffee is made with a Melita filter. Its all in the quality of the beans, the roasting and the grind.

my hat is off to you guys who prefer and can stomach strong coffee,
i had an espresso once it was less than pleasurable, i don't know how you guys can drink it either.
I stopped the coffee addiction probably 10 years ago now, and
once you break the addiction to caffeine life gets better.
the mere smell of it is almost revolting to me now.

They have a Nespresso machine at work... I'm tempted to give it a whirl!

Definitely not for me
After 20 years in oilpach , my coffee options were from Esso, Petrocanada, Mohawk or 7/11( my top pick)

I find a french press turns bad grounds into good coffee, without all the expense and complexity of those machines.

When camping, perk or cowboy works for me. I kind of like coffee one can chew.

Anyone with foam on their coffee should probably get their water UPSTREAM of the herd.....

Yep, the French press works well with all grounds. It lacks in that it does not stay hot enough for a second or third cup. I am a second cup guy and I find them messy between rounds. Now I reserve my press for coffee with desert.

As for mess, I run a little water and chuck the grounds off my deck, but not everyone has that option.

I like the press but it is not my go to.
My coffee maker grinds the beans and takes care of the rest and she has my cup poured by the time I get to the kitchen.

Thinking most people would agree with that assessment. The stuff reminds me of visiting my grandparents in my youth.

My first taste was vacationing in the Cardston area many years ago. My next try when my doc suggested that coffee might be irritating my gut and I might be a coffeeaholic. He suggested Postum or Sanka. I chose the addiction and the gut ache over that stuff.

You will find that a mod needs to be properly caffeinated in order to govern effectively.

I think it was invented around ww2 because of coffee rationing. Burnt grain is the main ingredient I believe.

1895 actually, much older. But there was a depression in that era too.
