Default Athabasca river (Jasper) flow report?

Hi.
Heading to Jasper this weekend. Wondering how the flow is right now? Won't really bother if it's fast and high.
Thanks!

Default There's a website for that. :)

Haven't looked myself, but general rule of thumb is that while you can certainly fish the Athabasca during June-July-August, it gets daily flows of glacial water and glacial silt / flour. That's aside from any rain or snowmelt.

Bottom line is that the river doesn't clear up until September, that's usually a better month for clarity. October and April even better than that. Nov-March is clear, but the weather is obviously colder.

Good luck.

Thanks Smitty. That makes sense.

With that in mind, is it worth checking out some of the side channels during faster/high flows on the Athab in Jasper during this time of year? I want to target bull trout. Not looking for any specific areas, just as a general question.

Fish the River at the mouth of other rivers that are clean that run in

Athabasca drops in turbidly towards end of July usually(Hinton Mill Water Plant)

You can fish the snaring river for bull trout , the mouth where it meets the athabasca river is good to.
